Last month, my Wife (age 52, I'm 51) started cycling again. Got her a new polar to monitor her heart rate. We have seen much improvement in the last month. She has already 200 miles this month.
Now she want miles and more miles. Already talking about riding her age, something I have not done yet either.
We did 30 miles Saturday.
Today, at 1:30 as I left for work, she was getting ready to ride. That was 4 hours ago!
So either she went down and is hurt. (we both wear roadid) or,
She set out to do 52 miles today.
God help me, I've set loose a wild person!
Soon, very soon, she will be riding my pace, and we can ride together and BOTH be in our training zones.
For now, I go out and do my ride, and we meet up and ride her ride together.
Am I a lucky guy or what?

I envy you. My wife just cannot get comfortable on a bike and she is scared of traffic, and does not have time. So I ride and she doesn't. I would love to have your problem.
Am I a lucky guy or what?
No. Life as you know it is over and it's going get bad. Real bad. Before, she was playing catch-up (and of course you were quite supportive and never made any comments about it, right?). Now she's about to ride with you. In a couple of weeks you'll be playing catch-up with her while she sets the pace. And of course she'll be the model of civil. Guffaw, snort... Not!
She will brag to the entire world about her accomplishment--especially the part about dropping you. She tell everyone she knows. And then she'll tell everyone you know. Shoot, she'll probably discover BF and tell all of us. And we'll all have to be supportive--of her--and will laugh at you.
Get off the computer and go ride. Do it now. Your health and sanity depends on it.

Two late, She already compares numbers. And she can ride long and hard while I'm at work. (Where I am now).
Brag, every we know knows she rode 31 miles on Saturday. Called my daughter to let her know she bested my daughters longest ride.
She will never, never drop me! (did I say that?)
