Mountain Biking - Jerseys.. Long Sleeve vs Short Sleeve

Hey guys.

I'm workin on gettin me a new Jersey here sometime real soon. I know it's winter *right now* ... but ... for those 100 degree days.. ( I still ride btw) ...

would a long-sleeve moto-style ployester jersey be TOO hot ... ? ..


I'm really liking the Azonic Catalyst jersey.. but it's long sleeve only (it'll match my Catalyst shorts).

Should I go for the matching jersey that's a long-sleeve... and then cut the sleeves and double-stich em back up? Or should I keep "shopping around".

I really like the Azonic Catalyst gear... the shorts are kick ass... and I really want the matching set... because I can't afford the "HFX " or what ever it is Jersey that Azonic offers.. it's $69.00 USD... as the Catalyst is $35.00 USD.

What's everyone's opinions on this?

If I am riding xc I always wear a short sleeve but if I am dh'ing/freeriding I always wear a long sleeve, it saves my skin much better when I crash. If you get one such as a Troy Lee they make them with mesh from the underarm down to the waist.

I always wear short sleeve. I hate long sleeves. Even if I wear a dress shirt I have to roll it up :)

Unless you're ***** overweight, mtbikers generally have muscular forearms... show them off =D that's my opinion.

I have huge-ass forearms.

I usually do 60 LB curls with dumbells every other day in Weights class @ school :beer:

Lat pull downs I'll do 3 sets of 10 reps... at 150 LBS. ;)

How about instead of buying all this matching crap and looking like a total poser, wear a T shirt!! Then when its cold outside wear a hoodie! Some people put too much thought into what they wear.....geeze.:D

I've been wearing T-Shirts for riding for the past 6 years... I think it's time I break away from the cotton SONGE on my back and get something that wicks away sweat... it makes the ride a lot more comfortable.

Nike has some sweet shirts that sheen away sweat and still look good. Rip proof too. I definatley like them on a hot day :) But they are always short sleeves. I can't cover my arms and hate covering my calves :)

I bought an Adidas long sleeved dry fit shirt. Greatest material in the world. The only real problem I have is that it isnt as tough as a jersey. After a few wipeouts, it started to develop little knits in the fabric. But if you dont mind an imperfect look, the dry fit keeps your body very dry. Also its very cool to wear, its breathes very easy so the air is always circulating around your body, keeping you cool. And its also very light, which to me, is just more comfy to wear.

or you could go the roadie way, wear a short sleeve jersey and some arm warmers if it is cold. :)

A lot of mx jerseys would be perfect for freeriding. Most are vented, and some have pads sewn into the arms at strategic spots. All are built heavy for durability. In fact the one I was wearing in my avatar picture survived a few hare scrambles in timber country. I was sleeveless when I had my last big biff, and if I had been wearing my mx jersey that day I would have come home with fewer bruises.

I wear a long sleeve jersey most of the time, and I live in FL. I like the added protection from vines that always shred my arms. I recommend getting any of the polyester fabric ones. Stay away from the cotton ones. I bought a pair when they were on closeout, and they work great in cooler weather, but 75% of the time, I'm in a sweat box!
