Hi guys.

I got my bike into a muddy singletrack today....and as i said earlier my new XT disc brakes were crap powers ( still needed to break in). After some nice mud baths i hit the rear brake and all of a sudden it was able to lock the rear wheel. not perfectly but it had way more power than the beggining. The rear brake had been sprayed with mud from the front wheel so it must helped it break in. The front still was crap. I decided to dismount and pick a wooden stick and blast it with mud all over. After this it had enormous power ( in comparison with the beginning) but when it cleaned itself gradualy power went down as well. I repeated the process and noticed that after mudding it ,it gained power ....and i believe that after a couple of mud rides it will come to its full potential.
Any opinions?

Yannis.

whatever works for you. It sounds like the mud just made the pads grabbier and they still need to be broken in dry conditions to make them where they need to be

edit: glad to see that you've finally got all that break stuff in line. I'm taking my mini's for a snow ride today

Peter i am glad as well as i got into a disc brake nightmare caused by the misfit of the front brake. Now everything is GO.

I'm tellin ya man...have someone pull ya with a car and slightly use those brakes, it'll brake em in fast

I did a really dumb thing! Went to clean the rotors and the bottle I used had WD-40 in it.....OOPPSSS it was marked wrong. Anyways everything we tried to get it off didn't work, so we got out the truck and drove up and down the steet hitting the brakes, one guy litterally had the brakes smoking!! that was a little to much, but man after that they have worked better than they ever have! Jsut gotta be carefull you don't to it to much and get the rotors to warp.
