Road Cycling - choice - michelin vs. vreds

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Need your help on a tire decision. I put about 1k miles a year on my race bike (ultegra based). I do other miles commuting on another bike. The race bike came stock with Michelin Axial Pros (23c), I got 2 seasons, 2k miles. Only 1 flat, roofing nail. I have narrowed my choices down to Michelin Pro Race or Vredestein Fortezza Road (not the tricomp). Both are close in price at BikeTiresDirect ($35 and $30). So price is not an issue. I pump the tires before most rides with my trusty Silca. I would keep the Michelins at 110-115 psi and the Vreds at 120-130 psi. The Michelins are 220g and the Vreds 245g. I am leaning towards the Vreds. There are a lot of good reviews about those tires and it is something different. Any recommendations ?

Mich's with ultra lite tubes
Wishbon7 / Shokhead - Thanks for the advise. I knew it would take a while to find someone who could answer this question because my it was so specific. In the back of my mind, I knew the Michelins were the better choice, new design and technology. I am going with the Michelins. I guess the 145 max psi on the Vreds was tempting. I think the Michelins have a max 110 psi. Shok, you mentioned ultralight tubes. Bummer, I just bought 2 new tubes (Continental 700 Race). They weigh 100g. Looks like Continental also has a 700 Race Light that weighs 70g and a Race Light Latex at 80g. Do you think it is worth it to return the 100g tubes for the 70g ? I think the first two are butyl. I have heard Latex tubes are not as reliable.
Marnan... Between your choices I'd choose the Michelins...and if just road training, I'd suggest a slightly tougher tube, in the 25c range.
I've been riding Continental GP3000's... since my bike was new. I originally used lite race tubes while training, but with all the ugly road conditions around me and to 3 pinch flats, I quickly upgraded to a 700x23/25c, 27x1 tube and haven't had a flat since.

I use the Fortezza tires at 145 psi and ultra light tubes and have no more flats than any thing else I have used! I also love the way these tires ride and find it hard to beleive that I am riding on 145 psi!
I don't know if it makes any difference but I weigh 230lbs and almost always ride on 2 lane country roads. I haven't a complaint about this tire.
