Mavic Ksyrium Elite rim replacement cost/availability
I've got a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elites and I asked my LBS about getting a rim replacement, since these are not available on the open market. The mechanic gave me a funny look and said they weren't even sure they could get them.....oh boy. And another LBS was just as wishywashy--I get the impression Satan answers the phones at Mavic and he swallows the souls of LBS employees who try to get parts.
Really all I wanted was to know is if the rims could be had (they're NOT Open Pro rims, otherwise this wouldn't be an issue) and how much they'd cost. I was thinking about picking up a few spares for rebuilds down the road.
Anyone here had to replace a Ksyrium rim, and if so, how much was it?

$70-$80 for the rim, somewhere around another $50 for the spokes, if needed, and $40-$50 for labor. the rims and spokes are available...but honestly, i'd get a set of DT swiss wheels before i mess with anything mavic (that isn't OEM on a brand new bike that i am purchasing) again.
2 weeks to 3 months depending on how nice mavic decides to be to your LBS.

You can get anything you want from Mavic with enough money. I had a wreck rear Elite. Trying to get a rim was tough, but I ended up getting one of those Performance Titan (same as Supergo Korso/Neuvation M28) off eBay for 20 bucks. Same 20 hole spoke count. Mated the Titan rim (actually made by Alex) to the Elite spokes and hub and have one heck of a nice spare wheel.

Still, making fun of the French is our way of acknowledging the way they behave...

Why buy just a rim? If it is out of warranty, Mavic will rebuild the entire wheel, new rim, spokes and hub for $220. Now, you may ask why that is such a deal. answer? the new build comes with a new warranty. So it is like getting a new wheel.

I bought some Elites and got the Mavic warranty (MP3?) plan. For 10% of the cost of the wheel, for 2 years they'll repair/replace with no questions asked, even if you run over the wheel with your car in the driveway. Fortunately, I haven't tried this yet...
