Mountain Biking - dirtjumper vs mx comp

I am a 6'3 185 pound 17 byear old looking for the right fork for me. I am considering the dirt jumper and the mx comp to put on my giant iguana. I ride hard and like to do 3-5 foot jumps.which fork would be best.

Are you djing or xc riding with some drops. If I were just doing jumps I would get the dj's for sure. Without even thinking twice. They are designed for it. Stiff and strong and with the right springs will easily support you. For jumping you want the stiffest possible fork for preloading the jump and then sticking the landing.

would the dj 3 be a good choice. whats the differencwe between them and the dj 2 and if i bought it would i have tio buy something to make it fit my bike?

yea i am doing very aggressivce xc and street riding and goin of drops and dirt jumps with friends. i want a shock good for both thats why i am considering the dirt jumper 3

You cant get a dirtjumper II or I because I am pretty sure they dont come in a regular dropouts. Dirtjumpers are nice forks and you wont go wrong in getting the III.

DJ1's and 2's come in qr20 and have some extra fluff adjustments. Dj 3 are just a standard tough fork without to much else to offer. They are the value based fork in that series and still very worth it :)

i am a xc rider so i dont know if the mx comp 105 mm trabvel or the dj3 130 mm travel would be better

Also... keep in mind that the Dirtjumper weighs 5.3 LBS ...

so if you're an XCer' or someone who is a weight weenie... I wouldn't touch it.

If you are doing jumps and drops get the dj. I am pretty sure you can lower the travel to 100mm. I would email marz and ask them for sure. But from your initial description dj's are the better choice. If you are doing 90% xc than get the mx as it will be a smoother ride. :)

you cant adjust it to 100 mm and i am afraid the front of the bike will sit up to high if and will make climbing difficult .

It is however adjustable to 110mm. Sorry about being off by 10mm ;)

Like I said. If you are going with your original post then the dj. If you are doing mostly xc with very small drops and jumps the MX will be good because of the lockout (ignore this as you aren't getting the MX with eta). Djer's are best for single hits because they are stiff but not very responsive on little bumps (rock garden for example). The MX I assume (having never ridden one of the 03's but ridden the 02 equiv) is more of a tough xc fork. It has lockout travel and will be decently strong. It has 30mm stanchions while the dj has 32mm stanchions. :)...

It really depends on the type of riding you do most and how hard you plan to ride. The MX is a great fork for aggro xc. The dj's are best for hits (drops and jumps) as it is stiffer and allows for qr20 which add tonnes of stiffness to the front end :)

no im gettin the mx with eta. is that the same thing as the marathon comp?

Thats the easiest way to look at it. Marathons as far as I know aren't as burly and meant for pure xc. Good forks but I wouldn't do a drop over a couple of feet with them :)

well i am gerttin the marathon comp is that the same as the mx comp with eta

They are similar but they aren't the same. Either way it will be a good fork for xc :)
