We have a Raleigh SC we are wondering if we can swap out our 26" rims and go with 700 size,
LBS said no it wont work, but then he said it would then it was come look at this new tandem..
we are also looking into going with smooth tires on the 26"

Take a 700c front wheel off a single bike; put it on your Raleigh.
Does the larger 700c wheel fit? Can you adjust the brakes to hit the 700c rim? Nope. End of story.

Go with 90psi 26in slicks

try narrower, higher pressure tires with road tread (or no tread). 26", of course

If your bike has disc brakes and lots of clearance you maybe able to fit 700c wheels. If you have rim brakes it will take an expensive and difficult to find solution to adapt the brake pads to the new position of your rims. Faster 26" wheels are the way to go. There are quite a few choices from 120psi 1" Stelvios to 2.35" Big Apple or Super Moto slicks.

Here is a link to a Mavic brake adapter designed to allow you to reposition your cantilever brakes for a 700c wheel on a 26" bike. I have no experience with doing so...but if you are interested and the wheels will fit in the frame this might be helpful.
