Commuting - Saw one impressive BMXer last night.

On my way home last night I was actually passed by the most impressive BMXer I have ever seen. I rolled up to him at a stop light and we both headed out for the next mile at the same time. I was cruising about 22 mph for the first half mile or so but tired somewhat in the stiff headwind and slowed to about 19 mph in the drops for the remainder of the mile. Just as I approached the light, BMX boy blows past me standing full up like a wind sail in the head wind and killing himself to maintain the speed. IMPRESSIVE!! :eek: Aren't most BMX bikes geared at about 40 gear inches or so? I can't believe he maintained that cadence standing up in the wind.

Needless to say, he did not have it in him to keep up for the next mile.

That's impressive! There are some strong kids out there. Too bad most of them give up biking about the time they get a car.

Some of those kids grow up and become messengers and then they get real impressive skills LOL. We had 3 or 4 of these guys here working as messengers for a couple of years, they were wicked fast and had unbelievable skills, the kind of moves that are sooooooo silky smooth and deliberate that it just leaves you shaking your head in disbelief. Like bunnyhopping up onto walls with a track bike, bunyhopping curbs on a fixed gear while riding one handed with a cup of coffee in the other. Riding massive gears and being able to stay out of the saddle for 10-20mins at a time, although Ive learned that trick myself..

BMX riding and racing especially is like a crit with jumps and obstacles, some of these kids and young adults can easily put out 300+watts and bursts of around 700+, it aint the bike, its the rider.

Yep, there's a guy in san jose, down near where pixel usa used to be....he was insanely fast....pretty much no hope of even keeping up with him.
