Hi all, I'm a new member here on the board but long time guest and reader.
So about a week ago I was fitted for a new bike, I had the Kona Jake in mind, price is right, im new to the whole bike thing, and thought the whole CX thing was pretty neat, you get a little bit of road and off road action on the same bike. I pick it up today, test it out, the bike was awesome, bring it home, ride for a few mins, then time to eat dinner, then go out for my ride, 2 min into my ride, as im going up the hill my chain just falls off. Taking it back to where I bought it to have them fix it, but man, it really sucked, was looking so forward to my first real ride, and then that happens. Just wanted to share my really sad story!

I thought you were going to say..."and I came back from dinner and my bike was gone"
A dropped chain isn't really an earth shattering story. But more importantly, what kind of bike and let's see some pics. Those are mandatory when announcing a new bike!
Don't worry about the dropped chain. Even though a bike shop can properlly build a new bike for a customer, once you start riding it, the bike needs a little "breaking in" time. The cables for your deraileaurs and brakes will strech out a bit and fall out of adjustment. This is a normal thing. Once you bring it back to the shop for the gears and brakes to be readjusted, everything should then be fine as the cables are now stretched and ready for action.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I also picked up a new Jake this week. Apologies if this shouldn't be posted in the CX forum, since I'm mainly gonna use it as a commuter. I had an Ibex Xray Sport in my sights due to the fact that it was $200 cheaper, but I got motivated and sold some stuff around the house I don't use anymore- CD's, climbing gear, my old Trek 720, and stretched a bit for the Kona.
It's a 56cm, everything stock for a while- save the seatbag, and the LBS forgot to give me a bottlecage so I need to head back in and get that.
First commute this morning ~6.5 miles was an absolute blast, coming from the old flat bars and suspension seatpost of my hybrid.

Looks like we got the exact same bike, I also got a 56cm jake. I loved it up until the chain broke, taking it back to the LBS to get it fixed today though, so I should be a happy guy again this weekend. I'm coming from an old MTB and this jake blows it away! Pictures coming soon, or you could just look at the previous post. my bike looks the same!

Oh, when you said, "my chain just fell off" you didn't mean it simply slipped off the chainring. It actaully broke? Did the chain fail or did the shop put it on improperly?

The Chain broke, the little peices that hold it to gether, they both bent. Sorry, I don't know the technical term for them. I just took it in to the LBS and they fixed it. Didn't really get a chance to ride it after they fixed it since I had to get this done at on my lunch. Com'mon 5 O'Clock
