Road Cycling - Upgrade to 2002 Giant OCR 3

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
After many hours of futile searching on google, I'm turning here. If, I'm posting in the wrong message board please let me know.
I'm in the process of upgrading the fork on my OCR 3 and pretty sure that along with the fork both headset and stem must be replaced as well. Has anyone been through a similar process? If so I would be interested in hearing the details, what were the selected components and for what reasons, etc.
Please advise.

This is likely the process you will have to follow. Your OCR 3 has a threaded fork, headset and stem. Most of the aftermarket carbon forks available will be of the threadless type meaning you will need to replace the headset and stem along with the fork. Any shop can do this for you for probably around 30-40 dollars in labor. As for the parts that is up to you on what you spend. Depending on your parts choices it could be a lot of money. You may be better off selling your trusty OCR and using that money along with the money you planned on spending on the fork etc. and getting an entirely new bike with a carbon fork and with any luck better components as well.

The OCR will fit a 1 1/8 fork. I have a '02 OCR3 that is no longer an OCR3. I fit an Easton EC90 fork, ITM Millennium stem and Easton EC90 bars. As far as a headset I just use a MTB headset from Syncros. I have also switched out the groupo from the stock Shimano Sora to Dura-Ace.
It is a fairly easy conversion.

You know, there are still some pretty nice threaded forks out there. I think that some of the look forks, as well as the eastons come in threaded, if all you are looking for is a fork upgrade. You can avoid the cost of a new headset, stem and labor.

Hey Phatman, if you are asking me it is because I like to tinker.:)
I also now have the parts to build my dream road bike when I get the frame.
