According to first mountain stage images, those not looking good for the next mountain stages:

Mayo
Simoni
Leipheimer
Fothen
Honchar
Zabriskie
Cunego
Casar

I'm talking of those initially tipped to be in top 10 or top 20...

So I announced it, I have to pay up:
Mayo gave up
Simoni - 4.10
Leipheimer 0 wow
Fothen - 3.06
Honchar - 33.47
Zabriskie - 40.32
Cunego - 10.03
Casar - 35.47

Leipheimer, Simoni, Fothen did much better than what I was expecting on stage 11. Leipheimer especially was amazing. What happened to him, compared to yesterday???

With all due respect, I don't agree with any of your comments.

What do you mean with "Leipheimer was struggling in stages 7 & 9, looked better in 10..." ?
Then "hard to read Mayo, he looked good on the final climb..." 17 minutes behind the peloton ?????

He was conserving for stage 11? Bloody hell, he would be hiding his game very well.

All the others recovered, yes, but in the descent. They won't have that chance this evening after stage 11.

I'll come back to these names tonight.

Leipheimer lost 7 minutes on the stage 7 time trial and another 26 secs off the back of the peloton on the flat stage 9. By contrast, on a much more brutal stage 10 he was able to catch and finish with the main peloton.

As for Simoni, Fothen & Cunego, like Leipheimer the fact that they caught and finished with the main peloton without the benefit of the draft showed they weren't bonked. With the more brutal stage 11 awaiting, there was no need to expend undue energy. And in Simoni's case, the only reason he dropped off the back of the peloton was a flat rear tire so it's hard to correlate a flat tire to concluding a rider is washed up for the following stage.

Mayo was suffering from a cold, so the mountains eventually got to him. He anounced Wed. had given up on overall, was hoping to recover for stage wins in the Alps.
Zabriske is not a climber, he is a TT specialist, he was expected to drop off in the mountains, so his finishing so well in stage 10 was an unexpected surprise.
