Hi all,
I had the opportunity to ride a Brompton around for a few days and really enjoyed it. I want one of my own! Since I don't live near a dealer, I've been looking at the websites for US distributers (bfold, nycewheels, foldabike) as well as the main Brompton site, but some things aren't clear.
What are differences in frames between the lines (C,M,P,S) if any? Is the main frame with the bent beam titanium with the X models or is it still steel? also, if it is steel, is it the exact same piece as the lowerend models?
I probably can't afford the titanium models, but if I could, are they only available in the 3 colors and with the oval logo? I was in a shop a few weeks ago that had a Ti demo but I was thoroughly not impressed by the flamingo, green and 'tempest'. Are the Ti parts (rear assembly, seatpost, stem) available individually as upgrades?
and last question from someone working at a dealer: what time frame are these running? for instance, could I have an M6R-Plus by the end of July if I ordered it today?
I am a bit naive about buying new bikes. I've always bought something locally or used off ebay so I don't know what is normal for having a bike shop order something from the manufacturer. Also if people have recommendations of where to order from if I'm doing so over the telephone, that would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I am glad that you have the opportunity to actually test-ride a Brompton before you decide it is for you. That is the one of the most important part of the decision process to deterime if this bike is for you. Now the next hurdle. If you can, I recommend you visit a Brompton dealer in person if you actually can. I assure you that it will be worth your time. The abilty to fine tune your choices of the particular model and what it has or does not have will greatly be a big relief as well as would possibly save you some serious money. I chose my C model over the M model because of the C's ability to be retrofitted with components and accessories later if I chose, rather than pay for something I might not need or even want. Unlike buying used, you have far more control in asking for what you want.

There are 2 basic frame to keep in mind when you are thinking about Bromptons-steel only and steel connected to titanium parts. I would visit the official Brompton website for more information on the models.
www.bromptonbicycle.co.uk (http://www.bromptonbicycle.co.uk)
It will clarify the difference between the models far better than I could. Mainly look for the accessories offered to clearly separate the models from each other after the frames are taken into account.

There is a wait of around 4 or so weeks for a special order (color other than black, some components and accessories that the dealer does not have in stock, etc.). If you order it now you might have it by July 31. But there may be delays as in all foreign shipping. Check with the dealer for these questions since they are the best to answer these questions. Until then, just check with my previous posts on my search for and locating a Brompton dealer directly. It was a very enlightening experience beyond just locating and buying a bike.

Please let us know what you have decided to do.

Main frames are the same for all models: CroMo; the differences are components and wheelsets. I haven't heard of them selling a Ti main frame.
Colors are standard; if you want a different color, you'll have to "custom" order it.
Ti seatposts are sold. Not sure if they sell the rear triangle, but Wavshrdr was apparently able to obtain one, I think.

Hi Jeff,
Did you call or contact David at Bfold (www.bfold.com) yet? If not, then give him a call and he will be able to answer a lot of your questions. He takes his time in explaining and answering any questions you might have about Brompton.
In term of getting a M6R-Plus by the end of July, I know Bfold probably can get it to you quick because they have a wide selection of Brompton in stock and should be able to find one to fit your needs. Are you on the East coast? How far away are you from NYC? If you are not that far, then I think it would be worth your trip to Bfold and see the wide selection of Brompton in person. Good Luck!

My plan has been to contact David at Bfold. I am in Pittsburgh which is a little tricky to get to just to go bike shopping. I do have a wedding in New England in August and am planning to stop by NYC to visit friends. I had hoped to use the bike for transportation getting from the train to the wedding (~25 miles). I'll talk to him first, but I may just get the bike while on the trip. We'll see.
Thanks for the advice, folks!
