I already got some useful suggestions for recumbents, but I need something portable for the truck.
Reason being that the company is most likely going to make me drive teams(hate that, prefer solo), and of course team me up with some stereotypical lead driver who hardly ever leaves the truck.
Not to mention I could also bring it along without upsetting the lead driver about space constraints.

If you like full-size, you might also want to consider Dahon (http://www.dahon.com/us/folding-bicycles-us-alpha.htm) as well. However, all the Dahons - except for the Allegro - are aluminum frames. Don't know if that is a factor for you. Montagues get positive and negative reviews.

i ran into a long haul trucker acouple of months ago and he was unfolding a bike friday > he said he has used it all over the country when he stopped for braeaks and such. I have a good friend who uses a montague paratrooper adn helikes it he keeps in in the rear cab of his pickup

I have a Montague and I find the frame is pretty good but I've replaced every single componant and both wheels. The parts suck. At the price you paid you can do what I did and have a customized bike with good parts for a moderate price.

I have the same bike. Frame is Ok (a bit heavy), the lower black frame is steel not Al. As to parts the only parts I liked where the Mega range cassette and freewheel. It is hard to find accessories due to strange geometry. I would not suggest the bike as you will not be able to deal with mechanical problems on the road. The Crankset is better than the one that shipped with mine (that I chucked). The Hubs were horrible. I replaced 2 rear axels before chucking the rear wheel. I think they are using the same 'Formula' hubs.

A Downtube would probably work better and leave you $200.
Swift might be pricey for you.
Dahon Boardwalk could work for you.

If you want a cheap ride high quality ride, I suggest you get a '90s steel stumpjumper or a 70's 80's French road bike for $100 or less. Then pay $500 for it to be hacked in two, see sandsmachine.com .

consider ebay or craigslist, I see them there regularly.
