Had a cannondale super V800 (2000 model i think) for a while now and been running it with some nice magura rim hydraulics. A few months back a friend split one of his bikes down an did me a good deal on his wheels and hope disk brakes. Only problem being my forks have no disk mounts (the frame does but not forks??cannondale logic??) Bin watching out for some forks going on ebay with disk mounts (just to mention being a Cannondale its the 1.5inch headset) and have had no luck, i refuse to pay 300 for some new ones so decided to go for some 1 1/8 forks and get a reducer for the frame. Having bought some new forks I now need to remove the old fatty D headshox, so the question is how to go about it? To be honest i havent fully investigated them but being fatty D's they have the lockout at the top of the steerer so not the usuall star nut/headlock system that im familiar with.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks or even a vague idea of how to go about it?

the lock should unscrew and they come out just like normal forks. but you are going to need to take out thoose 1.5 cups to put in the reducers. and with the reducers they take up some extra room on the steerer tube.

Extra space on the steerer should be ok, the forks i got have about an inch over whats required so that shouldnt be a problem.
I've undone and taken off the plastic lockout switch on the top, and taken off the stem but the forks dont seem to want to budge and all the headset and everything sit flush with the top of the frame. Usually theres one of those rings with the gap where u can pop a screwdriver in and with a few tap taps the ring pops out an the rest comes to pieces. Is there more that needs removing, or do i just need to apply a bit more force to pop the forks from the headset?

i think more force, but lets see some pix. ive only worked with leftys, but it should be about the same.

Got the bike up on the workstand this afternoon and tried to persuade the forks out with a hammer and a block of wood to cushion the blow a bit, it didnt take much effort and the forks began to move, after a few more hits they dropped out so all sorted!!
