I just ordered a pair of the new ones. I thought about the new Shimano ones, but they just cover up too much foot for my taste. Yeah, I know I could've run a search, but I want to talk about the brand new ones, most of the time the search function doesn't work since the server change, and I've got a red star so I paid for the right to start threads. :) Anyway, discuss. Paired with my Eggbeaters, we can take over the world!

I like the old ones... Is the last/fit the same on the new ones?

I think so. Um, any tips on how to mount cleats? All I see is solid rubber on the bottom. Am I supposed to cut into it, or something?

You are supposed to cut into it, yes. Box-cutters or such; it should be pretty obvious the part that'd come off.

I thought the new Lakes covered a hell of a lot of foot, the new shimanos are even worse?!? (Haven't seen 'em.)

I got the large ones but they are too big for my damn 10.5 feet. Anyone need some large ones with the cleats part cut out? I'm thinking of finding the smaller size to see if they work. Anyone want to trade?

Yeah, the Lakes I got a few years back were pretty noticeably too large, I had do the exact same thing.

But yes, the smaller size should work. = |

Figured it out, thanks Matthew. Went for a long ride to get Superman sneak preview tickets, they're pretty nifty. Not noticably any less efficient than my road shoes, and they sure make walking more fun. I'm sold.

Yeah, I'm wearing the Shimano ones now, I don't see ever going to road shoes unless I'm racing or something weird. Great stuff.

I really don't know why Shimano felt they had to change the old version. They work just fine and I love them.

I can't really comment on the new Sandals(Lake) but I have the older ones and I love them. I even bought another pair when it was on closeout at Nashbar. Super comfy and easy to walk around with. Looks very durable(older versions) but waiting to see how long the neoprene would last. I also think the toe guards is a major plus for me because I think it helps keep small debris hitting my toes when I go offroad.
