Hey there guys,
I just bought some clipless platform pedals for my AB, but I am a rugby player with many foot injuries = wide feet. I am having a difficult time finding shoes that are my size (13 US=48 Euro) and are wide enough for my feet. Any ideas? I was thinking about finding a normal shoe with a stiff sole and routing a flat spot into the sole for the cleat and maybe a padded steel insert(like workboots have) for the insole.
Whatdya think guys?

Check out the Cannondale Roam shoes. I have them in a size 48, and I usually have to wear 12W (US) shoes. They fit me quite well and were only $75.

Also check out the SIDI Dominator MEGA shoes. Actually, check out any SIDI shoe with the "MEGA" tag on it. MEGA means it has been made for wide feet. I wear a 13 or 14 (US), or 49 (European) and I have very flat, very wide feet. More like canal boats than feet, actually. The SIDIs are very comfortable.

Yeah, I'd love to get some of the Sidi's, but I can't afford 200 dollars for a pair of shoes I can only wear when I'm riding. It turns out that being an ex rugby player, riding an expensive'ish bike, and going to college aren't financially possibly. LOL

Nashbar has "Answer" brand shoes in 48. They fit my 12 1/2 extra wide feet nicely.

It seems that you have viable commercially available options. I don't recommend building your own shoes.

I think you're right bentrox. I spoke with a cobbler and he seemed to think it'd be a pretty easy task, but I think I might have found some good commercial options. I just need to use online retailers with a good return policy.
