Foo - TIVO Yay or nay?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Extra 9 bucks a month for HD-DVR tivo, yay or nay?
I have regular Tivo and I like it.
Are you asking if Tivo is worth it (yes) or if upgrading
to the latest box is worth it? ( I don't know)
I have Tivo set to record unusual shows I like, Dinner for 5, for example.
If Brisco County Jr ever comes back on, it will be recorded automagically.
One of the shows I watch comes on at 3am. With Tivo that is just not an issue;
it's there when you want it.

if you have the bucks, i say 'yea'....
otherwise, buy a VIA mini-itx mobo and build your own PVR using Linux and a capture card...
btw, SLAX rules! (http://www.slax.org)
(i have a full Linux OS w/DVD ripping, etc. on a 1GB thumbdrive)

Yay. If it's the one with two tuners. That way you can record two shows + watch a recorded program at the same time. It's great for sports, so you can replay that flying knee over and over on the UFC.
Added plus. We schedule TV around our lives, not the other way around.
That said. I only watch not even six hours a week of programming. Now, when TDF comes. I watch both the morning and afternoon commentaries as much as I can. Makes up for the rest of the year.
I have basic cable. Sweet!!
Another vote for Tivo. I used to never even watch TV before TV. Now I go online and search for shows I like in advance and set them up. I always have stuff that i WANT to watch available. The dual tuner TIVO is no big deal if you have a TV with multiple inputs, like most larger TV's do, a single tuner will work fine. You just split the cable and feed the Tivo to one input and the raw cable to the other.
Then just switch inputs if you want to watch something while recording something else.
just get the dvd's of the shows you want. commercials suck.

I've built a machine using Myth TV open source software, which is similar Tivo, except it's all free. A little bit difficult because you need to know linux, but a good alterntive for those who do.

What kind of self respecting geek doesn't have TIVO?
TIVO makes TV worth watching.

I've said it before: Pay TV is like a subscription to a big ass. TiVo addendum: TiVo is a subscription to a big ole' pair of man boobies to go with the big ass.

It's still about sitting in front of the boob tube, but you get to take it up a notch.

BS. TV's nor Tivo's make people fat. People do that on their own. I am probably the thinnest, most svelt, person i know and I have 6 TV's and one Tivo in my house. :) I hardly watch TV either, except at bed time. It helps me to fall asleep.
ARGGG Damn you people, I just ordered it...

I didn't suggest it made you fat. Watching TV a lot is a pretty strong predictor, though.

Do it. The Tour is coming up soon. My wife is so excited that I'm taping every day so I can watch it that night.
Fast forwarding through commercials and pausing the action for a beer/sandwich/bathroom break is worth the extra money alone.
