My brother and i are touring from the mountains to the coast along the nc bike route system. we will start on the tn/nc line near lake hiawassa/murphy on the mountains to the sea route, drop down onto the piedmont spur at morganton take the sandhills sector in uwharrie and then jump on the cape fear run all the way out to fort fisher state park; then we will probably take bikes into southport. if you are interested please let me know. we are planning about 9 days or so. self-contained and camping, possible hotel time once or so. jason.b.nicholson@us.army.mil or jbn5@georgeown.edu

Hey - I did something similar two summers ago and enjoyed it. My recollection is that the M2S route near Lenoir was kind of crappy - busy highway. I imagine it was plenty quiet when the route was first put together. You might want to see if there are quieter backroads that bypass this part. The Piedmont spur should be fun except for the sprawl north of charlotte. You probably already know all this though. Have fun and stay cool - we ended up hoteling more than planned because of the heat.
