Man I've been trying to figure out how to carry my skis on my bike. Very cool. :)

But dude, how come your bike looks like it's floating in the second picture?

Okay you've convinced me to start "bike-to-skiing" this coming winter. I have a few questions about carrying your gear. How did you carry your tele boots, or did you wear them while riding the bike? How is the bike handling with ski's in the panniers? It's about 30 miles from my house to the nearest ski-able hill, and I'm willing to give it a shot....

First I can't believe I am even in this forum as the temps around here(Maryland) are gonna ht 103 today!
Mnt mike: I don't think you are gonna have enough energy to bike home after 30 mile bike & a bunch of skiing.

Wow 5 waterbottles...that's some serious weight you've got on that bike.

I don't know if you can see it in the left photo, but i was actually skiing downhill with my bike...

the Tubus Cargo rack carries skis like it was made for it, mike, i hardly had to lash them down, but gave them a little bit of lashdown. they mount bayonet style, straight off the back and the tails of the skis up by the head tube, OR as pictured, wedged in a bayonet style like the Tubus Cargo was made for skis..

as pictured in the right photo, i had the boots lashed to the tops of the front pannier, and rode in bike shoes. I had the bike just shy of 40 miles an hour on the downhill off the pass, and the skis were rock solid in there, no waffle or wobble, i could have pushed it higher but the head wind was holding me back... I think i did a write up in the touring forum about this trip, maybe i'll find the link....

yeah, carrying skis is both possible and easy. if you wind up biking to ski often, mounting a 6" diameter PVC tubing, capped on the bottom, and bolted and hose clamped to the rack, provides what i call a "summit county" ski rack for your bike... (add pieces of ethafoam camping pad inside near base to provide 'wedge' for ski tails)

and the long haul trucker, it is like floating on air.... no, no, its an Esge-Pletcher double leg kickstand that is doing that...pretty cool, eh?

....here's a link to the trip report....
