I've read recent posts concerning various tubing but saw no mention of Columbus EL (i.e. Extra Leggeri, Extra Light) . I've a frame made of this and indeed it is very light but was wondering if anyone had any information concerning wall thickness, strenght, and composition of the steel.

Thanks in advance!

There's a better resource I've seen, and there' also some good stuff on the Columbus site as well, but I can't remember the site names right now. Here's what came up fast and was good info, on Google:

if you fully expand your browser and close your 'favourites', you should be able to just read it :)

Many thanks, that was just what I was looking for. I didn't notice at first but in fact the tube set on my bike is the EL "oversize", marginally heavier but stronger :)

I'd be interested to know what that frame weighs.

I weighed a 56cm Columbus MAX frame yesterday which was over 2.1kg, so I'm not sure how those weight works -- it could be 'without lugs'

The frame is a older Bianchi MTB frame, 20.5 " C-T. I brought the whole bike when I noticed the Columbus sticker and fully lugged frame. I had the frame stripped a while ago when I refurbished it with NOS XTR components and a Vicious Cycles rigid fork but never bothered to get a weight. The whole bike is lighter than my road bike, a 1982 Bianchi Superleggera (60 cm) built with SL tubing and campy SR components.

I'll see if I can get a weight on the whole bike next time I have a scale handy.

Hi Aussie,
I just weighed my 56.5 cm CTC Italvega Super Speciale (1972) frame (Columbus double butted w/ chrome stays) and it weighs in at 2.21 kg. Sounds about like yours.
Cheers.

Cheers.thanks. The one I weighed isn't mine, it's a frame I was checking out at a 2nd hand shop.
I figure that's kinda heavy, because 2 of my old 531 frames (56cm and 58cm) are about 1865g!

Hi Aussie, I have a Daccordi Columbus EL which is under going restoration at the moment. last week I had the paint stripped to take a better look at the chrome and took the chance to weigh it - 1720 grams frame only no forks in its LUGGED chrome state with the seat pin binder bolt still in.

I am more than happy with that result.

regards

nice chart in the link but aside from weight does anyone know the strength/flex/etc. for el vs. sl vs. slx?
