Does anyone ride one of these or have any impressions? I have seen one for auction and was thinking about it. I don't really need another Japanese Schwinn ( I just aquired a wolrd voyageur) but this bike looks very clean and might go cheeap. It is silver and did these come w/Shimano 600?

You probably already know this, but the "12.2" refers to the bike's weight, in kilograms. I know that at least the main triangle of the frame is chromoly, maybe the whole frame. During the time period the 12.2's were made, the le tour models generally had frames of 1020 steel, so the 12.2's were a definite step up in quality. From '83 onward, all le tour models had full chromoly frames of one type or another.

I've got a Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2 from '75 I believe. It is really a beautiful, nice riding bike. Wonderful sport-touring geometry and very comfortable. It has a 600 group on it too, by the way. Out of all my bikes (50+) it is my best shifting friction shift bike. As a matter of fact, I just rode a couple of hours on it today. 2 hours well spent! I say if you can buy it right, get it!
The SLT is a very nice bike. If you can get it cheap, you are getting a good deal.

Well i got the bike!! I also got a 1987 Trek 560 (full 531) Pro-series. Both bikes for under $200. The Trek has a 105 group and is a red fade to oange color. Both bikes are in very good shape and should arrive shortly. The Schwinn is silver and looks great. I have been on bit of tear lately, the two bikes above and the Shwinn World Voyaguer I posted about ealier. All three for under $300! I may have to part w/ the Trek and the Super Le Tour though both are 24'' frames. I am not sure they will fit. Thanks all for your help.

Here's the catalog page for the 1978 Super Le Tour 12.2. The bike shown on the catalog page is the "full chrome" version, which was a $50.00 option.
If you've got the chrome version, you've got a very special bike.
