I know it has been a while since I last talked to you guys. I took a 2 week break from no cycling at all, but am back into my daily 24 miles commute. So right now I am averaging about 120 miles a week. I am pretty sure the weight is dropping off alot, as the clothes are fitting well. I am still too scared to step on the scale after taking a full two weeks off any excersize.

The Wally World bike is on it's last legs though. Hopefully it will last another few weeks when I get the last little bit of cash together to buy a new one. Its pulled 360-380 pounds over a thousand miles so far, so I can understand its pain :D

I took some of your guys advice and tried a bunch of new paths to work. Finally found one that by passes all the hills that were giving me.

I am now have the time down to 45 minutes each way.

To put this in perspective, the bus takes 90 minutes there, 75 back
Walking takes 145 minutes each way.

Kinda insane I am saving time as I am loosing weight. :D

Well thanks again for all the support guys :)

way to go Thorton. I am exactly the opposite, every day after riding my 15 miles I hop on the scale and hope that I have lost that next pound. My problem has never been exercise, it's diet. I ride because it's fun (though exercise is a nice perk).

I also had a Wally world bike when I started commuting in college and I can't tell you how happy you will be when you lose that hunk of junk. It was the worst purchase I ever made that I did not demand my money back on.

Good! A little break isn't so bad, you know. Rest for the body as well as the mind is part of training, after all. What's the current weight?

I wondered what had happened to you, and I'm glad you're still on the bike, crappy though it may be. Congratulations on your progress.

There's been lots of, "What kind of bike should I get?" threads in the past couple weeks so go through the last few weeks of threads to give you some ideas. Then post pics of your new bike.

Welcome back!

Welcome back and great work on the commute. Keep it up and before long you'll be adding a few hills to your ride to increase the challenge. Keep on biking -- I'm sure your new bike will make you feel like you're flying along.
