Seller says "This bike has a solid frame..."

Yeah, its so solid, you could run it over with a truck. Matter of fact, I believe someone has....

At least you wouldn't have to worry about someone stealing it...

Interesting seat tube - I have only seen them on tandems. I wouldnt have expected to see it on such a cheap looking bike. The front forks look like they have been run into a curb.

Wait, now-let me get this straight (the listing, not the frame).......He's listing that old, rusty, P.O.S. Ashtabula crank as the part for sale??!! I'd think the brake calipers are worth more than the crankset. (Since this guy don't know ***** from shinola, I wonder how he plans on getting the crankset off??)
And, BTW, is that our Pokey that has the highest bid entered???

A grinder of course. why waste your time doing it any other way.

I wonder how much itll go for?

I wondered the same thing.

I have never seen a seatube like that except on
some 70's paramounts (I believe some other
builders like Ron Cooper did the same to shorten wheelbase).
Its not something you saw on POS bikes. I wonder
if the cheap cranks, poor components were put on an
old frame by someone who didn't know what they
had? I'd be interested in knowing more about the
frame.

edit: did some research, another bidder was involved in
running the price up to that high of $26.00, that bidder
buys ALOT of vintage cycling parts.
Did anyone think the Fork looked a bit off? like it was pushed
back in a crash?

I hope Pokey is happy with his new bike. :D
He probably got it for some rare part none of us know about that will sell for millions and will laugh in our faces. More likely not.

P.S. Pokey If you DO happen to make a few bucks, I might need to borrow a few of them. :)

I tell ya, guys, I am a bike collector and even I am amazed that there were SIX bids!

Something stinks. You don't suppose the seller was bidding to stimulate the auction do you?...

Yea your probably right Mike. Or the standards of most cyclists have sunk really low.

The real wheel looks out of true as well-- and that's being kind.
There is no sign of shilling (seller bidding on his own item) in this auction. Just two bidders going at it. Both of them could use a lesson in how to bid on ebay, frankly... people will bid on nearly any old thing on ebay. I see stuff going for entirely too much all the time (and entirely too little some of the time as well).
I don't know the first thing about old schwinns, so I can't speak as to "secret" value.

I have never seen a seatube like that except on.....

Umm.....that seat tube used to be staight. Something smashed it (most likely a compression event....), and I'd bet that's when the fork got bent, too.

I don't think so.. how could the seat tube deform without
accompanying damage to the downtube and/or toptube?
yes, compression event for the forks.
Attached is a picture of a new 70's Paramount with same
curved seattube.

I downlaod the photo and tried to clean it up some.

On the seattube are the numbers 326.

The front fork is raked but doesnot appear bent. and has a chrome crown.

The bike appears to be small with the fork rake and curved seattube to keep the wheel base down.

CURIOUS

Is Pokey not answering?

Hmmm.....
On closer inspection, it's obviously a Schwinn frame (kickstand on the BB-only Schwinns did that), but with the chicken levers and cheap- Ashtabula crank, it's obviously no Paramount, either. Was this noodly seat tube made on multiple lines one year?

I'm not sure about the curved seat tube and which frames
were built up with it.
I'm wondering if the cranks, and other cheap parts were
added to the frame at a later point in time.
I'm gonna post to CR list and see what I can find out.

1973 or 1974 Schwinn Sprint.
The only model other than paramount to have
curved seat tube.
Basically a continental with curved tube.
Light Blue was a common colour so this one
may not have been repainted.
thats all I know about it for now.
Will add more to this as I receive it.
