Commuting - Another trekking bar convert.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've been intrigued by the Nashar trekking bar for some time now and at the current low price I couldn't pass it up.

I hated to see my existing bar ends go unused, so I put them on for an added aero position.
I got the bar, bar tape and shipping for $19.60 using a 10% off coupon code. Best twenty bucks I ever spent.

I have similar bars on my bike. Mine are not 'trekking' bars though. They came from a mid-ninties schwinn mountain bike. From what I've heard, they are the father of your modern trekking bars. They were designed by a mountain bike racer. Drew Somethingoranother. I always called them Drew bars. because I had never seen anyone with them before.
I'm glad to read that you like your bars. If I weren't totally broke right now, I'd buy a pair to put on every bike I own. Rock on.
By the way, what bars did you switch from?

That's awesome. I might try those for my good ol' Trek 830 MTB currently fitted with slicks. I will be getting my new bike soon, a Fuji Newest 1.0 WSD, but will still use the Trek as a beater bike and occasional MTB.

that is pretty cute...
how come your brake handles seem to be angled towards your body? -- do you brake with your thumbs?
the aero position involves resting your forearms on the front bars? do you angle out your elbows, or do they go just outside the twist-shifters?
trekking bars are great! I put some on my Trek 820, along with slicks, and made a darn good commuter out of it.

well, i took the plunge and ordered these bars -- can't wait to see how well they work for me

Those are thumb shifters. If you look look closely at the first picture you can see the brake levers.

Actually I rest the heel of my hand on the trekking bar with my fingers wrapped around the bar ends. My forearms are parallel to each other, no resting them on anything. I can ride in that position for 4 or 5 miles before I need a break from it.
