Recommendo for decent clincher CX tire?

Hey all,

I'm fishing for some recommendations for decent CX tires. What do you ride? How well have they worked for you? Cost?

Are you going to be racing these tires, or is it for non-competative, multi-purpose riding like xommuting for example?

By "CX" tires i mean tires for off-road use. Not commuting.

I'll actually be racing and i also ride off-road for fun.

Sheesh! That was the same sort of business i got at every bike shop i went to shopping for a CX bike.

"Can i help you?"
"Yeah, i just stopped in to see what you had for cyclocross bikes."
"Will you be using this as a commuter?"
"Um. No. Actual cyclocross."

I really like my michelin mud's for off road use. They are branded as 30c, but are about the size of most 35's. Also tried and liked Ritchey speedmax 32's- they are not as agressive, but work nicely on hardpack and roll a little faster than the michelins-they may be a little lighter too.

the kenda kwick is a good "race" tire....light and fast, but not knobby enough for mud or snow

I'm currently using michelin Jets when it's dry or grassy and schwalbe racing ralphs in the mud and snow.

Michelin muds are great tires too, I would normaly use them instead but I won a pair late last season so I'l be using the racing ralphs instead.

Tufo's tubular clinchers are nice too, no pinch flatting and they can use a sealent that can patch most small punctures.

The only thing kenda kwicks have ever been good for with me is collecting dust...

+1, have been racing on Michelin Mud 2's for 3 years now in all conditions without too much trouble

I still use my 2-3 year old Hutchinson Pro Series. They came with my bike kit and I liked them a lot. In fact I put over 1400 miles on them and now thye are rally showing signs of wear. One is pretty much bald (in the center) with side knobs still visible, the other one is a bit better. One thing... the soft compund gets worn out fairly quickly on asphalt. In mud they were fine but I wish they were wider. They can be pretty harsh on off-road but overall they are very fast. But since now they are effectivelly becoming "sliks" I gotta get another pair and I am leaning toward Michelin and Ritchey. But given that the summer is pretty dry so far, I'll try to stick to them until the end of the season and get a new pair for fall/winter.
