I just found out that North Carolina has a "Share the Road" special license plate for autos. The funds go to cycling education and helmets for kids that can not afford them. I'm already planning to order one for the Volvo.

Just curious what other states have such plates. The NCDOT website said it was the fastest response to a new plate they have ever had (takes 300 applications to win consideration).

What a great idea. I am very surprised that with all the various optional license plates available in California, that one like that is not on our list. Perhaps I will write to the DMV.

I'm surprised that California doesn't have one also.

Just south of you we've had one for almost 3 years:

The extra fee goes toward infastrcutre improvments for cyclists in South Carolina.

nj needs that option as well!

That's a neat looking plate.

What I find interesting is that the colour scheme of the NC share-the-road plate is the same as the regular WA plate yet the WA share-the-road plate has a less "classy" look, IMHO. Of course the plate was designed by the BAW so it reflects their colour scheme and motif. However, I would have rather it looked like the NC one.

Not bad but the OP's could easily just be a sticker added to your exsisting plate. So if your state doesnt have a special plate then getting a sticker like that could solve your troubles.

I have my USMC tag wich means more to me so I wouldn't mind tossing a sticker on there.

Check my sig for Virginia's. I was one of the initial orders, was going to wait but it was looking like they might not get the minimum prepaid to make it happen, so we ordered them for both vehicles.

I've got the Cooper Jones sticker on my car which stands out more. The specialized plates all seem to blend together in their pastel tones in WA. Unless you're stuck in traffic behind one or walking through a parking lot and reading license plates, you aren't going to notice them.

I really like the Georgia plate.

I'm glad that NC joined the list of states producing such plates.

I was one of the first 300 to sign up for the NC plate. It is on my Honda Element.

Some cyclists in NC have stated preference for a design more like Washington's. One thing's for sure, there's no way to make everbody happy.

Now that the state has a revenue source for bicycle education, maybe we'll get our bicycle driver manual printed, and meaningful education about cyclists' rights on roadways

The Texas plate rocks, and man, I wish they had the SC plate when I was living in Myrtle Beach! As for Ohio, jeez, you gotta practically rear end the car to make sense of it...

I think I like the Florida plate the best so far.

We have a CPA tag, a Ballooning tag, Ducks Unlimited, and Shriners, but no Cyclist plate. Whats up with that?

I wouldnt be caught dead with a tag that said Y'all on it :P

I have to admit I like the "ya'll". Has southern charm, touches on regional culture, and it is amusing enough that drivers will remember it.

Here is a bigger pic of the Virginia plate. I'm going to order one next time I have to re-up my tags.

Another one that's pretty generic and hard to see.

I just found out that North Carolina has a "Share the Road" special license plate for autos.

Just saw one on the road for the first time. I think it was the owner of my LBS. Plate number was 0136, so in theory there were 135 issued before his...

Good to see 'em on the road!
