.....and wanabe monkeys who know alot. I have had my 2002 enduro for almost a month now. I would have posted a pic but I have yet to get a digital camera. I wish I could show you because if a bike had an ass, this bike would be one fine peica ass. Especially with the Blackspire NS 1 bash gaurd I just put on today. Anyways, thats beside the point....

My question is does anyone know if my bike, which by the way, is the version thats seatstay was supposedly fixed, will end up breaking on me. Im a fairly new riding (about a year), but I see myself progressing fairly quickly into doing some small drops. Nothing huge, and nothing in the near future over 3 to 4 feet vertical. Even though I know that my bike is one of the new versions sent out by specialized, what should I expect its limits to be. If indeed it is fixed shouldnt it be able to take what I just described? Or have you guys heard of the new version of the 2002 enduro breaking in the same spot? I just need a confidence boost, because nothing would break my heart more than breaking my bike. I love riding my new bike so much more than my previous hardtail, I just want to feel free to do whatever I want with it and be confident that it can take the abuse I deal out to it.

There is nothing that is not capable of being broken. Although I have yet to hear of the "fixes" Specialized offer on that rig to fail.

I have seen a few that have cracked on the upper shock mount, if that does happen specialized has no issue sending you a new 2003 frame! That bike wasn't really ment to do huge drops.... specialized has changed the way they advertise that bike now...it's no longer a "freeride/hucking" bike, just an all around bike. If you do decide to start doing bigger drops go with a beefier frame! You should be able to get away with 3-4 footers, as long as you aren't out dropping em everyday a 100 times a day onto flat landings.

I had one guy riding only doing maybe 2ft drops and his cracked....go figure. Just what I've seen. I hope I didn't take your confidence away! In my opinion you should be ok with it. Hey if not...then you get a 2003! ha ha ha.. there ya go!

Yeah Im aware that the bike isnt meant for doing big drops. But im sure theres going to be times on the trail where there would be a smaller drop around 3 feet, I think any bike should be able to do that.

You said that youve seen a couple of cracked frames. Were they the model that specialized had fixed, or were they the original model that was recalled.

And if my frame does crack, and I decide that I want a bighit instead, would specialized do that?

As for the bikes that I've seen crack....no neither of them were the ones that had the rear end problem. They did not crack in the rear...only by the top shock mount under the seat mast. Yes I agree that the bike should be able to take about a 3ft drop...over that I think you'd be pushing it. As for the swap to a big hit....i don't know if they'd do that....do to the fact it wouldn't just be a frame swap...you'd need a new rear wheel too, and other mics parts. But I honestly don't know! Hope that helps!

I say ride it...have fun, from what I have also seen they are great trail bikes for all kinds of riding! I woulda bought one but I got a giant that better suites my needs.

The only way they would swap for a different frame, is if they no longer make the model you have, or they are out of stock. Either way, don't worry about it. Your bike should be able to handle drops like that! I'd be more concerned about your body, or your wheels!
