Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. First, let me start of and say that this is my first post here, as I am finally getting back into riding (haven't ridden much since 1998 or so).

I bought a bike off of eBay and it got a little banged around in shipment, the shipping company is paying for the damage, and I am trying to figure out how much it might cost to get it the paint fixed. The frame got a chipped and scratched up pretty bad on the seat stay

as well as a few knicks on the top tube. The bike itself wasn't all that expensive (Spec Allez Elite) but being that the shipping co. is supposed to cover the cost, I need to get an idea on what it will cost to get it back to ship shape. Not looking for anything fancy, just the stock paint job. Most of the bike shops 'round here were less than helpful.

TIA,
Pete

There is a painter listed in the back of Velonews, that will do single color for $140 but you will need to send him a stripped(no parts) frame and you need to do basic prep. This does not include the decals either.
Sorry I can't think of the name, just look in the ads in the back couple of pages. i have seen a couple of their paintjobs, good for the money.

You can also try the bodyshop. If you go to a small time guy, they will sometimes hang onto the frame until they do they color you want and the spray it when they spray the car. You will still need to do prep.

Check yellow pages for an industrial finisher. You should be able to get it powdered for $100 or so, and then maybe get the decalling from Specialized. Might get a body shop to shoot it with a car for not a lot...just thoughts on where to look. There are some custom frame painters but I think they're going to cost more than you're going to get out of shipping insurance.

Check out AirGlow Painting (http://www.airglowpainting.com/)

They say they'll do it for 200-400. And you do not need to strip the old paint off they'll do that. You just mail in the frame and fork (disassembled).
