IS the Louth bypass haunted by a ghost on a bike?
A couple of holiday makers from Leicester said they saw an old man on an old bike cycling along the middle of the bypass.
It was in the middle of the afternoon at a section between the London Road roundabout and the A157 roundabout.
Teresa and John Gillson, 59 and 61, from Wigston, near Leicester, said he was wearing a jacket, trousers and a cloth cap that looked to be from the turn of the century.
They said the bicycle also looked as though it was from the same period.
Mrs Gillson said: "We both saw it at the same time. It was really, really strange."
"We've never forgotten about it."
"We said, look at that idiot cycling in the middle of the road – and then it was gone."
They saw the cyclist at the crest of a hill where the bypass is bordered by a steep embankment on both sides.
He was a short distance in front of them but when they drove closer he vanished.
Mrs Gillson said there was nowhere for him to have left the road.
The couple regularly holiday at their caravan in Mablethorpe.
They were driving home when they saw the mysterious cyclist a couple of years ago.
Mrs Gillson said: "It's something that's always bugged us because there is no explanation."

So let me get this straight...
Cagers never see REAL-LIFE cyclists, but they're now spying ethereal ones?

Can the eyesight of the motoring primate be trusted? Here's an incident that would make that a worthy question.

Guilty conscious maybe?

Maybe (CSI Bikeforum) Mrs. Gillson hit the biker killing him/her and disposed of the bike and remains.
Years later they are still having flashbacks!

Haunting isn't it!

What cadence and speed do you think a ghost could hold? Do ghosts get fatigued or bonk?;)

I don't know the answer to any of those questions; but I think we can be fairly certain that Casper practices V.C.

There seems to be something about Britian that people report seeing ghosts on roads and other places quite a bit. Belief in what they claim to see notwithstanding, is it that they are more willing to discuss weird things they see, or do they really see more weird things there?

Turn of the century - was he riding an ordinary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinary_bicycle) or a safety (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_bicycle)? ;)

I'll bet the cagers still passed too closely and maybe even hit the ghost without stopping.

The most rational explanation is that a vintage bicycle enthusiast was suddenly abducted by aliens.

rando

I wonder if he gave the "slow" hand signal before vanishing? ;)

Brings the term "ghostrider" out into the open quite well.
This kind of reminds of this one listing from "theshadowlands.net" ghost site.
Except it involves the haunted place listing of a particular water run-off area here in SoCal, someplace.
And involves a skate-boarder as opposed to a cyclist.
A small group of late-night skaters claim to have encountered at one time or another, the ghost of a skater that lingers until approached. When approached, the ghost-skater will skate down the concrete run-off at an inhuman speed leaving the live skaters in the dust.
I read this and it sounded pretty freaky and cool at the same time.
