Thief grabs bike from woman at MAX stop
There was a stolen bike listing that caught my eye the other day.

http://bikeportland.org/wp-content/lizandHerBike.jpg

Apparently a woman was waiting for a MAX train when a thief ripped her beloved steed right out of her hands. The woman’s husband emailed these details:

“She was at the PGE Park MAX stop when a guy ran up behind her, grabbed the bike and took off. Several other people at the stop ran after him, but he got away. She called the police who responded. It happened at 3 in the afternoon when other people were at the same stop waiting for the train.”

We’ve had a brazen bike theft story recently, but this one takes the cake.

If anyone witnessed this incident, please get in touch and I’ll direct you to the police officer on the case.

That's why I like South Carolina's Conceled Weapons Permit.

This happened to me in 7th grade. I was lucky I was riding my old bike, but it scared me off of bike communting for a while.
Cops weren't very helpful, which pisses me off even today. One would think a mugging of a 7th grader would have provoked some response.

Thats why you ride a fixie in town and watch the crook crash about a block down the street. :)

Guns against a bike thief at a light rail station full of people? As a bystander, I don't think I'd even want to be pepper sprayed. I guess that's one of the reasons I like living in a small town.

Very true. I'm not particularly pro-gun control, but those MAX platforms are often full of people. The stop in question has a minor league baseball stadium on one side of the street and a high school on the other. I cannot imagine a responsible gun owner shooting into a crowd like that. Of course, I am assuming that the gun owners on this discussion board are the responsible sort. :)

I think I like this idea better then the whole shooting gun in public thing.

NOT my point. The conceled weapons law gives criminals something to think about.
