Foo - Help out the Karldar #8. Boots or jeans...or both?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I picked up a new mc jacket earlier this week to keep me a bit cooler this summer. Works great, by the way. Now, I've got some great Fox gloves and a more-than-passable HJC helmet. Unfortunately, the rest of my motorcycling attire consists of khakis and ropers. So, fellow fooians, should I invest in mc boots, just buy some jeans(not as good as leathers, but they've gotta be better than khakis), or go ahead and get both? I really want some nice mc boots, but they're gonna be quite expensive compared to a decent pair o' jeans. Lemme know somethin', yo!

Draggin' Jeans can be had for under $100. Well worth the price if you ever go down. Used boots can be found for about the same price.
What Jacket did you purchase? :)
Get both. Jeans, despite their rugged appearance, are marginally better than hitting asphalt naked.
Years ago Motorcylist did a comparison: Jeans, Balistic Nylon, Kevlar, and Leather. Guess what won?

Cortech GX-Air. It's pretty nice...and very cool(temperature-wise). Better visibility than my old leather one, too. Got it with the wind/water-proof and cold weather liners. Very versatile.

I figure jeans gotta be better than khakis. As for the winner, I'm gonna go with, um, "Kevlar," Chuck! It's really leather, isn't it?

It depends on the bike you are riding. If it's a big V twin with the baffles knocked out of the muffler, just wear jeans and the ropers. Get some tattoos and a beer gut while you're at it.
If it's a BMW, by all means go with the best leathers and motorcycle boots you can find. If it's a Gold Wing... I don't want to know you. :D
Sport bike? Don't worry about the clothes; just make sure your insurance policies are paid up.

Yeah, leather. Remember... In the battle between asphalt & sik, asphalt always wins. Leave vulnerable only the skin you can afford to loose.

I guess it's technically a sport bike, but it's naked...and Italian! That makes it super cool!;) Oy! Don't even get me started on the insurance.

I knew I could rely on you for the personal responsibility card.:p Can't I just blame you guys for once?
So I got a couple pair of cheap jeans and a pair of not-so-cheap Alpinestars SMX-4 boots. Me happy now! Well, until I decide to get leathers....;)
So now that's settled, how do you feel about tucking pants in? My new boots are quite nice looking, but the jeans fit over 'em just fine. Part of me says to show off the boots, but another part thinks tucked-in jeans look stupid. Stupid parts of me!
Tuck 'em.... and turn your collar up too. You'll look like a smacked azz for sure :D

You're welcome, I thought you'd like it. What are friends for? :) Enjoy.
Mmm, lucky. I wouldn't mind getting a monster :). A vintage duc or bmw would be the best though. Ohh, I'm gonna drool just thinking about that one.
I'd suggest overpants. I have a pair of firstgear HT ones that I got at new enough for a little over a hundred. Removable liner is the **** when a ride is warmer/colder than expected, and they are waterproof. Mine were highway tested and held up reasonably well. I bought used boots on evilbay for about $30 (sidi dry roads, looked new and msrp was about $175), but I wear the smallest men's size (40), so expect to pay more for your size.

Yeah, that's why I picked up the jeans for now. I figure the overpants'll be the way to go, as long as they don't break the bank. The Alpinestars I got are nice, but I was impatient so I dropped about $200 on 'em(size 46) at the LMCS. I'm with ya on the vintage bikes. Trying to pace myself so I don't wind up with a garage full of motorcycles and mountain bikes just yet. My old Cannondale's actually leaning against the wall in the hallway and the warranty replacement frame I got is hangin' on my bedroom closet door. Hope you're having fun with the Ninja!:D

Now that you got the jeans, turn your khakis into shants and ride w/ your helmet on your handlebars. Then you'll look cool. ;)

Yes, but maybe not quite that vintage because I'd want to find parts easy for when I rode the crap out of it. There's a reason I have a bike that hasn't been redesigned since the 80s. :D
My overpants were $120 a pair me thinks. Less than what some of the people I know pay for jeans  I have heard that the HT2s are cooler than mine.
