How many miles have you gone in one single day?

Not very many, because I'm just starting to train for long distance riding.

I think maybe 35 at one time ever. Hoping by next season I can get a century or two in.

394 miles in one 24-hour period (although it was over the course of 2 calendar days). I'm in total awe of the guys who can top 450. The winner at the Michigan 24-hour this year, which is a hilly course and was run in brutally hot weather, rode 470.2. God-like, I say.

Right now, 10 1/2 hours going 108 miles, with a semi-bonk. Not sure if it was a true bonk, but I was going for a double-metric+ but had to cut the ride short because I was in such agony in my shoes, and even when I was climbing speedbumps I couldn't break 3.5 mph.

Yeah, I'd say anything <5mph to climb a speed bump qualifies as bonked!

I did a century (OK it was a metric century) for a charity ride last year. I also rode the 2 miles from my house to where the event started, so I did about 66 miles total that day. I'm not dying to do a real century, but may want to some day.

Wow. You folks are amazing. My goal is to be able to do 100 miles by the end of the year. I really want to buy a touring bike next year. :) You are all inspirations to me!

I used to go out for 6 hour+ rides on the weekends in high school... I didn't have a comp, but if you figure 14mph average(I was probably closer to 16 mph!), I was riding over 80 miles a day .... I covered a LOT of ground in those days!!! I miss my hometown in the mountains. *sighs nostalgically*

The most I've done in one day recently (with a comp to measure it) was 45 miles last Sunday, when I was going to go for a 'short' ride 'just to stretch my legs a bit' .... I didn't want to stop then!

Hopefully by the end of summer I'll be able to hit 1000 miles in a month and meet Machka's challenge!

I did 100 on June 24th and that was my longest. Prior to that my longest was 64.

109 miles. I didn't know it was that far at the time. It was just a route I decided to take that day. I tried it again the next week and bonked.

I guess I better not pre-plan those huffs. Ignorance is bliss...

The night before yesterday, I decided to get up early and try a long distance ride. Prior to yesterday the longest ride I'd done was about 30 miles. I wasn't sure how long my planned route was, so I had a hard time planning it in the saddle. Turns out it was 85 miles, and I was home after about five and a half hour.

The hardest part was the ten miles from 20 to 30. I saw this huge climb coming and decided to stop for a snack and drink before. When I started the climb I thought "oh man, this is hard" and halfway up I was about ready to give up and go home, but I persevered and made it to the top. After a drink I routine checked my wheels, and found out the back brake was scraping.

I guess I hit the adjustment lever when I parked at the bottom of the climb. It was irritating as hell at first, but then it became my motivation. I made that hellish climb with brakes on, so I'll make this whole ride, I kept telling myself when I felt tired.

It was a great experience, challenging for the body as well as the mind. I know I'll be doing more of long distance riding.

600 km = 373 miles within 24 hours (Mersey Roads 24 hr TT a few years ago) but over a weekend. I didn't aim for it but that's what they told me I did.

The old hands said that 300 miles was a respectable 24 hr TT distance for a woman and 350 for a man. I'm all for equal rights, I was aiming for 300! :p

Did that 106 in May with RPC180
then the next weekend, the same 106, but .... FIXED... it was brutal!!!!

The nice "long' ride this year was the "longest day". On the solstice we took a few urban commuter folks on a 1/2 century ride on MUP's with their hybrids and beaters. Had fun, kept them hydrated and feeling good the whole time. Since there was swimming during a break in the ride, can we call it a dualatholon? :)

btw: last spring, I could not ride due to an injured hand. So in late june, I started training for the seagull century. squeaked in just under 6 hrs w rest stops and in the rain the whole time, it was sweet!

My longest was somewhere in the range of 130-150 miles. I basically just set out to ride around town one night on my MTB and ended up going to Lake Ontario which is 25+ miles north and then 40+/- miles west into Niagara County along the seaway trail and back again. My goal that night became Niagara Falls but I turned back. Took me from David Letterman's TOP TEN to 9:?? in the morning to complete. Great ride, especially return. I rode with my head tucked down the entire trip home just to save energy ..think that really helped.
This year I'd like to try making my way to Watkins Glen which is almost right at 200 miles round trip.

128 miles in around 26 hours. This was with a 22 pound backpack and a thirty-two pound bike loaded with about ten pounds of additional gear. I set out to do an overnighter on my old steel frame mountain bike which is now built up for paved bike trail duty. Most of the trek was to follow a relatively flat bike path which follows the Jordan river from near the Great Salt Lake to Utah Lake boat harbor where I would camp.

I left home in Bountiful Utah around 11:00 AM and got to the camp spot around 10:30 PM. It was the longest ride I had ever done up to that point by a large margin. The mosquitos were so bad that I could not sleep and I failed to pack a mosquito net. But I was so hot after riding that distance I could not stay in the sleeping bag and sleep. I was sweating really bad in the bag even though it was only about a fourty degree bag and I had it zipped up all around my head and face to keep as many mosquitos out as possible. After laying down for about three hours and having about two hundred mosquito bites the water sprinklers came on and I had to pick up everything real fast and run out into the parking lot. I was so feed up with the mosquitos that I packed everything up and took off home about 2:00 AM.

I was so tired but now it was cool and even though I couldn't see were I was going except for the painted line down the center of the road I picked my way back closer in to town were there started to be a few street lights. I rode all night in the cool air until about sunrise and then I just died. I lied down on the side of the road in a empty parking lot and sleep for about an hour. Then the sun came up and I felt better after the rest.

When I was about 15 miles from home I was seriously bonked and I didn't think that I would make it home but I just kept eating and drinking and taking short rest periods and moved along at a slow pace. It was torture but I finally got home.

Today I just got back from a similar trip but this time I used motel 6 and was about 15 pounds lighter gear wise. 12 pound backpack and nothing loaded on the bike except a tool kit that is maybe two pounds. Also in a little better shape. It was a lot better but this time the trip was only about 90 miles. Now if only I could lose some 40 odd pounds more of fat I could climb some hills.

116 is my longest ride. I have done a handful of centuries, but I don't ever have the energy to break 120. I am sure that I could crawl along just to hit some certain mileage, but what's the point?

i was thinkin' about it and if we say 24 hours, my longest in that period was around 115. but count it as 2 days really cause i slept my regular amount of sleep and got up early and did more ridin'. but i did like 60 one afternoon. then the next morning i rode around 55 or 60. this is really just 2 seperate rides though. i think 66 was the most in a more or less continuous ride.

all on fixed gear.:) :) :)

217 miles in a 24 hour charity event. Saddle time was a bit over 18 hours. Can't even begin to tell you how much I ate over those 24 hours -- must have been 10,000+ calories!
