I have a Giant TCR2 and caught the triathlon bug. Does the compact geometry of the Giant lend itself to becoming a decent tri bike if I added aerobars? I see many roadies with clip-ons, but I see way more tri bikes. Trying not to buy a tri specific bike, but want to make sure adding clip-ons is worth it. Just wondering if anyone out there has used or uses a Giant for Tri's, and can offer some info. Thanks.

I see alot of people using this bike...I love the giant compacts, they feel quick. Putting clip ons would be a good idea. But I just hold my wires! :D
It is your prefference though.
I use a TCR 1T for my Tri's... I am in no way even near elite I have done 4 sprints and have my first oly next week. The 1T has worked well for me but then again I can from the MTB world and anything is fast from there. Well I have babbled on for a while, to answer your question yes the compact frame seems to work for me.

I also have a Giant TCR2, but it is my road bike (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=208064&highlight=my+new+giant).
You might need to shove your seat way forward to make this work, because of the relaxed geometery...but people do it all of the time. I did it until I got my tri bike. Now I have a dedicated roadie and a dedicated tri bike. Go for it!

a friend of mine had a tcr who slapped aerobars on it. just readjust your seat to get maximal comfort/efficiency out of the bike. i have a road bike with aerobars. ive done 7 tris this year and there are always more roadies modified to tri bikes then straight up tri bikes. youll be fine. if you have money to blow, go for a tri bike. just make the decision that makes you happy. the rest will follow.
Thanks for the aerobar info. Went to LBS and they suggested the Profile Design carbon stryke (Iron Man). I told them Nashbar had the Pre Iron Man on sale and they said go ahead and get them for the $. Arm rests don't flip up, but they said that's not a big deal. Anybody have a set of these or some info?

I posted this advice to another thread, but just to let you know. I ride a TCR as well and love it. Turn your seatpost backwards and then install and push your seat forward. This puts me comfortably over the aeros.
My advice is to get two fits at a shop. One as a roadie, and one with your new post and seat configuration. Mark the measurements with a marker and you can make the change in less than a minute.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to try it out.
