Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Bike Jersey suggestions for a Clydesdale

Hi all,

I need to get a couple of new jerseys and I was wondering if any of my fellow clydesdales could suggest a manufacturer that has a relaxed (not pro) fit jersey. I have a Louis Garneau that I love but it's getting long in the tooth. BTW I'm 6'4" 240. My Louis Garneau is an XXL.

Primal sells what is called Club Fit they are not tapered like most Euro jerseys. I wear XXXL which is about a 50 chest, but am moving down to XXL.

Actually Nike makes some great jerseys for people with some extra fat on them. I am 5' 7 and 215 when I started cycling 3 months ago I weighed 240, and I was happy with the Nike jerseys I bought.

Most manufacturers make looser fitting ones. I have a Canari, Pearl Izumi. Try mountain bike clothes. They tend to be looser.

I have had great luck with Canari Jerseys. Of all the jerseys I have tried, I like them the best. At 5'8'' and 250 lbs I wear a XXL. What can I say, I am a fat guy in lycra, never a pretty site but I am out riding.

Well, I am not fat but wear a size 50 Jacket. I have been pretty good to go with XXL on most jerseys. I just look at the style before buying and stay away from the tight fitting ones/Euro style? If I want tight I just wear some UA heat gear.

The performance jerseys are cut very generous for your size, xxl would be a good fit..

I think that the Nashbar Nitro is made by the same factory as the Performance "Ultra"; another well made jersey. There are detail differences but both of the brands that I have are VERY similar and made in usa. They wear very well.

That's what I wear. I can't see spending a lot of money to advertise someone's business so I just buy the plain Performance jersey.

Nashbar nitro is a very short jersey compared to the Performance Ultra.. I just had to send one back because it was 4 inches shorter in length than the Ultra.. At 6'3 I could not reach in the pockets..

uh oh....the design must have changed...I have one of each from 14mo or so back and the basic designs were identical...nitro had two larger pockets to the ultra's three and nitro had a longer zipper but otherwise they fit identically. I guess I know why the nitro is currently on sale. I may have to send the ones that I just ordered back......thanks for the heads up

Agreed. And they are a bit more generous sized. Since they're fairly inexpensive it hasn't bothered me that now that I'm now just barely hanging on to my clydesdale status they don't really fit anymore.

I also have a Nashbar sleeveless that is the same material as the current nitro jersey and it is 3 inches longer than the jersey I received last week.. The sleeveless jersey was bought last summer..

Old Navy makes some t-shirts out of the same stuff jersey's are made of. $15. Just no back pocket.

If you're looking for wool, Kucharik (for plain) and Woolistic/d'Allesandro stuff (for retro repro Euro team jerseys, available on line from Vintage Velos) make stuff that I can wear (6'3", 280lbs). Caveat: I like snug but not super-tight jerseys. They ought to have stuff that fits you, too. Pretty pricey, though, especially the Woolistic/dAllesandro stuff - $130 per, give or take. Comfortable as hell, though.

I would highly recommend the Pearl Izumi Pivot Jersey. Comes up to XXL, and is very comfy. I am now about 265, and 5'11", and I my XXLs are starting to get a little loose. Makes me feel good and bad at the same time. You might want to check soon though, as I heard they have been discontinued, and I see they have dropped from the Pearl Izumi website.

Actually, i just bought some 2x North face wicking things at REI.
They don't have the flap, but i don't have plumbers crack problems (get good fitting shorts).
Allows a much looser fit than any bike clothing manufacturer would do.

I ride off-road about 90% of the time, so most of my jersey's are more MX inspired. I usually find a Fox Racing MX jersey on closeout for about $19.00. A lot of MX online retailers have up to 3X. These have a looser fit which I prefer. I usually wear a hydration pack, so the lack of pockets isn't an issue for me.

I just cut the sleeves above the elbows, or just leave them long for a bit more protection.

I just bought a 3/4 sleeve in XXL from wheelworld for $34.99, but I had to buy some other things.

Hmmm... any jersey in particular? I tried several of the jerseys and they were super tight- even in the 3XL.

I'm 6'1", 240 and the Performance cheapo jerseys fit me great. I wear XL and it's a perfect fit. You might want XXL given your height. Great pockets, nice & long, and looser fit than the Euro-racer cut jerseys.

Go to Target. They sell some lose fit "workout" shirts that are comparable to Under Armor but sell for 1/2 the price. Very durable and have the wicking properties you would want with a cycling shirt/jersey. Plus they do not have the huge logos plastered all over them.

I'm 6'-4", 240 lbs. I only were custom fit jerseys. I know this sounds expensive, but really it's not. I use a nice lady named Dorothy Young. Here's her web site: http://www.youngoriginals.com/

The web site is not very good, but just go to the ordering page and print out the measurement sheet. Then give her a call. My jerseys are just a solid color with black around the sleeves and neck. They have about a 12" zipper and three pockets in the rear, all custom fit to me. I think they were around $35.

I'm 5'8, 245 lbs and I find the Canari XXL's to be TOO BIG for me...both length and snugness. I like a snug fit but these fit like t-shirts. I need XL's in these. My Castelli XL is so tight it's ridiculous.

Ive bought a bunch of these for everything from mtb, road to playing basketball & weight lifting. Really nice for the price. If youre looking for inexpensive but (fairly) durable baggy short try the cargo type also made by Champion sold at Target...usually near these shirts. Ive found these to be really comfortable for riding. I'm too fat for lycra. ;)

I'm all about UnderArmor. I have two of their loose gear t's and one loose gear long-sleeve T. I love 'em!
