I was thinking it over, and i was wondering how many young amateurs would be using EPO and other performance enhancing drugs. Would EPO be hard to get hold of? Would it cost much?

What a joke that would be.... doping for a cat 3 or 4 race. Most people are only competing against themselves anyway. Doping as an amateur is like sprinting for 50th place.

insurance will pay for it when you're in the hospital. i forget why exactly you would get it as a treatment, but a woman i work with mentioned she administered some to a patient and told them about doping while she did it. "this is legal here, but dont get caught using it in a cycling race"

Erythropoietin (EPO) is used clinically to treat anemia. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular to treat anemia from cancer chemotherapy, and is also used to treat anemia from renal failure and end stage renal disease. For these uses, it costs about $ 1000 per month. It is available in the USA only via a prescription, so I can't imagine how one would obtain it otherwise.

EPO is hard to get. And it can be potential dangerous.
HGH is better. You just have to get your IGF-1 testing every once in awhile.

It is available in the USA only via a prescription, so I can't imagine how one would obtain it otherwise.
Crooked pharmacists. It's not unusual for oxycontin to make it to the streets that way.

I actually work in healthcare as an administrator. What I think is more likely is physicians writing prescriptions for shady reasons, and those prescriptions are then filled by the pharmacy. Sometimes, the pharmacy is also in collusion with the physician or at the very least enables the inappropriate prescribing behavior by the physician. In the 'pill mills' that write scripts for Oxycontin, Demerol, Vicodin, Ritalin and the like, it is usually a cash business with minimal records kept. One reads in the media of these physicians being raided and shut down by law enforcement and/or the state medical licensing board.
Whenever I get a call from one of my pharmacists to report someone trying to pass a forged or altered prescription, the interesting thing is that it is always for a controlled substance such as a narcotic, tranquilizer or ADD drug. No one ever, ever tries to scam us for something like a beta blocker, diuretic or antibiotic. Go figure.
