I'll be riding my first bike race ever tomorrow morning. The Chippewa Valley Firecracker---part of the WORS series of races in Wisconsin. 12 miles Citizen Class on my home trails, but I've still got a bit of the jitters. My goal is to finish somewhere better than last place for my age group.:D

If nothing else it'll be cool to ride my first race on trails which I helped build. And today's local paper even had a quote from me about the upcoming race, though I warned them they should talk to somebody who knows what the heck he's talking about instead.

So here's hoping things turn out well, and best of luck to anyone else racing this weekend.

i'm sure you'll do fine. you'll lose all your jitters after the race has started, and remember, its your first race, no need to worry about position.

Stay hydrated and eat well, you'll do great, just remember to have fun!

If your racing on trails you helped built, you ought to know them inside and out or atleast have a clear view of them.

And as some said, don't worry about position. If you come in last all it means is that you can get better.

Lifes alot more boring when you're the best.

Have fun and be careful. Hopefully this will be the first of many. These things tend to be addictive. :)

If it helps any I still tend to get a bit of the jitters when it comes to racing.

I remember my first race. I came in last among 30 people, but I was still proud I had finished because 5 people didn't. :p I'd never do an XC race without an XC bike again.

Ha, that might have something to do with it.

Heh, I figured there would be more guys with bikes like mine. There actually were a few hardrocks, but they were pimped out with XTR everything, they came in near last too

The top 3 all finished in under 35 minutes, 12 km through the bush, and it nearly took me 2 hours :p

So now you do mainly trials?

Yep. I don't have a whole lot of trails to ride here, and I like trials more anyway. The bruiser has a great rear balance point, and the actual first bruiser was a trials bike. Really, mostly what I do is street trials. I love bunnyhopping over stuff and over gaps. And, lurching from object to object is fun, but difficult on this bike. I'm somewhat limited by what I can do for trials, because of my really weak rear brake. I'm thinking of getting a rear V soon(with a brake booster) instead of disc.

But XC is still fun :p I do rides through nature parks every once in a while.

Weak disc brake? I thought you had BB7s? Or was that only on the front?

Bb7 front, Mx-1 rear. - but it will be Bb7 front and V with brake booster in rear, or perhaps a magura hs-11.

When I get my new bruiser frame, I'm going to make it more trials specific than it was before. I'm going with a 70 mm travel fork I have laying around, it was on a trek 4100 before. That way I'll be able to get a front brake back on my bike too(since my bosses for my z1 snapped off).
