He's not really a mountain biker, thats a seperate sport called "trials" if you didn't know, and while he is really good, there are riders like Ryan Leech who are even more skilled. He's got distance on the hops but he isn't as smooth as some of the other riders I have seen.

trials always amazes me. I'll stick with singletrack and free ride

Yeah, that guy is Craig Lee Scott. He's sponsored by Zoo bikes.

Ryan isn't all that great. There are a lot of riders that would blow him away. What he does isn't really trials, it's street trials. Most of the things that blow people away are just his spins, he's great at them.

Most of the really good riders are sponsored by Koxx bikes. Two big ones are Vincent Hermance and Benito Ross.

I have yet to see anyone who can stick a landing like Leech though, he gets big points in my book for his lack of repositioning hops.

 Yeah, okay dude. Try to get away with saying that around here. Ryan is great. There are probably people who can do better, though you make it sound like "you da man" with a comment like that.

Sorry about that, ofcourse he's great, but I mean compared to others. He's just massively advertised. He's got so many sponsorships it's stupid. Everyone just instinctively thinks he's the best, we'll, he's pretty far from it. Ryan won't even do competitions anymore. Ryan's record sidehop is 45 inches, while Jeff lensoky is an inch more on his STP, which is far from a trials rig. Benito Ross has a whopping 53 inch world record sidehop.

though you make it sound like "you da man"
Man, I never even said ANYTHING about myself. I was clearly comparing.

Trials isn't that much harder. It takes about the same amount of time to learn as other things do, it just takes time, patience(probably a lot more patience than other forms of biking) and dedication. :p. It's all practice, like anything else. The pro's all have years and years of experience. As you progress, things gradually get easier, just like any other part of mountain biking.

Trials ridin' is friggin amazing... I mean how does one even begin to learn to ride like that without totally breaking themself...
I have a hard enough time stayin' on my bike, much less do stuff like that... always really cool to see :)

Well, you'd have to start by learning to Bunnyhop really well, learn to track stand, and eventually learn to pedal kick. If you have those three the rest comes easy with practice.

And...get a trials bike or make your own mountain bike more trials specific.

Well, I made a huge mistake here. I thought that was Craig Lee Scott, because he used to ride the Pitbull, and he's tall and lanky too. This guy is really Neil Tunnicliffe, Craig's biking buddy and also sponsored by Zoo bikes. :p

And they have almost the exact same style of riding.

I know that the second vid in the thread is a 20"...but I am a bit more impressed by it. The dude with the 26" (when he hops up on big stuff head on) gets his front tire up on something, then he hops again using his front as an anchor to get the rest of the rig up on it. The 20" dude is going up big stuff all the way with his back wheel in one shot. Not to mention he is a bit more creative. Just doing huge lurches (if that's the right terminology) get's a bit old.

Both are very impressive when it comes to that "nose stall" thing, ya know which one I mean? That is style. Trials stuff is cool to watch and very hard to do, but if you can throw in some flow/style...that's what makes a video. You can have a guy hop a huge obstacle, but I'd rather watch a guy nose stall and then get over it.

I don't know the "trials terminology", forgive me. I'm just a mountain biker that likes to ride a mountain bike.

Oh yeah...the dude who said "this is not Mountain Biking" is wrong. That's like saying Freeride is not Mountain Biking...it's Freeriding. Downhill is not Mountain Biking...it's Downhill.

Wrong buddy. 26" trials is Mountain Biking. (even if you don't do it on a mountain) Unless you want to call it "jibbing" like Thor.

Screw the labels, why do I waste my time?

Trials is another "Mountain Bike" sport, urban riding is also part of mountain bikes.
