Mountain Biking - My new MTN bike

Hey all

Well some of you guys wanted to see my new bike after I'd spit and polished it, so here you go.

It's a 97' Off-Road Pro Flex with a few upgrades, SeaFas saddle, 90 degree stem, Rock Shox Indy C fork, Shimano deure LX crank, hubs, and shifter.

My first bike since 1998 and my first mountain bike ever, so it's quite an occasion for me.

Any info anyone may have on the Off-Road bikes would be appreciated, I haven't been able to find anything on the company. Seems like a sturdy frame tho, it's either a steel composite or a heavy aluminum, cuz the bike is rather weighty.

It looks like there isn't much hell to ride out of it.

Weird suspension design aside... that is a decent bike, I used to ride a RockShox Indy SL fork, it was pretty decent, I might build a bike out of a Maxima 26 Peugeot frame (carbon chainstays :) ) eventually and will definitely use my 8 year old Indy SL, its a nice fork considering.

How much rear suspension would that have?

Why does it matter? So you can mock him some more? This guy has an old bike with a dated design, but if he likes it and it gets him out there, so what?

Man, what a bunch of haters. Old bikes are sweet, especially if they have personal significance for you.

Whoa, didn't expect many replies to this thread.

Suspension is good, as far as i can tell, i really have no reference. It's a solid bike at any rate and i can go over some pretty rough terrain with it, i wont' be doing any 20 foot drops with it but for now it's good.

Also wanted something kinda strange and outa the ordinary, I think i woulda been bored if i bought a trek of specialized seeming alot of people have em.

It came with a bunch of decent parts at any rate, if i decide to get a new frame i can just do some transplanting.

Only thing i see wrong with it now are the gears are really worn, so if i keep it on the mid crank gear the chain slips, if anyone has any gears that'd fit a deore LX crank for sale lemme know cuz i need em.

I thought only roadies displayed this kind of snobbery. There's a sign in a local bike shop that reads " Ride What You Dig! Words to live by. BTW I dig it too!

Eh i think its cool. I like the color scheme, the softail is probably nice, doesn't take much away from efficiency but softens the bumps a little. And one less dirtbike on the trails i suppose.
