Professional Cycling - Lance should've gone for 8th

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Lance should've gone for the 8th straight victory. With 2nd thru 5th place finishers from last year out, he could've easily won. Plus, he has a dominant team to back him up. He's only 33 or 34 years old, right? I mean, he could've even challenged for 9th straight victory with Basso and Ullrich gone. Does anybody else think so? He still looks real young whenever i see him on interviews.

............except that his name would have probably been on the 'list' as well

I doubt it. No other Disco team members were involved in this.

It would have been another routine win, if there is anything such as a 'routine' TDF win, he might have just abandoned out of boredom!
He could win this year on a recumbent with drinkholders and an umbrella.

I would've liked to see him win some other race. Any other race, I'm not fussy. Perhaps like the Giro d'Italia or the Tour of Spain? You know, something that would've elevated him above the single-minded mainstream join-the-dots dude that he is.
While he was racing some other race asided from the TdF, perhaps he could so some other good things like make those pesky yellow landfill wristbands out of something recyclable, denounce Nike as the amoral exploititive cult that they are, and maybe pick some other bike manufacturer apart from the biggest and most boring. Perhaps he might find time to find a partner that's not a potential trophy wife, or perhaps one that doesn't look like him except has long hair and boobs. Maybe he'll even come out and say "Of course I'm a doper! How do you think you recover from Cancer so well so quickly? By sipping herbal tea and doing Pilates? What are you, an idiot?"
Ahhh, but we can dream can't we? ;)

I know you're joking but those pesky yellow wristbands have raised $60,000,000+ for cancer research. None of us is immune and I'll bet every person on this forum has dealt with the disease at some point...directly or indirectly. I'd say he's pulling his weight. If I could bag sheryl crow or any of those potential "trophies", I wouldn't think twice.

Gimme a podium girl any day over Sheryl Crow. Yum.

Most guys who've had testicular cancer are too embarrassed to talk about it. Lance used this event in his life to improve awareness for the disease. I'm a pathologist and I've spent most of life preparing for my career. He's done more in a few days that I could in a few years for cancer patients. He's earned my respect. I know his mother and she is a class act all the way.

If his name is not on the list now then it wouldn't have shown up on the list. They released the name of retired and already-barred riders too.

Ok I'll give you that.

Huh... his closest competition was doped... and Lance Won how many TdFs in a row? Do the math. You honestly think he beat the best dopers in the world while remaining clean himself? That seems impossible.

Over the last few years he peed in more cups than urinals. LA was the most tested rider in the peloton the last few years, if he was doing something they'd have found it.

Show me where I said that I think Lance didn't dope... or where I said that I think Lance did dope. That was not the point I was addressing. Please go back and reread what I typed.

Not sure what they are made of... but I'd be interested in the environmental impact of the manufacture of them... lots of resins can cause cancer... do they leach when in the landfill. cantaminating drinking water? just wondering. as i understand environmental cues and contaminants are big causes of the disease...

None of the guys banned this year tested positive...

That would be the mother of everything ironic if those things caused cancer
