does anyone have expierence rebuilding katrina-fied bikes, i know my frame is ok and my forks and bars already had a lil rust from not being cared for but waht about my hubs and and all the other **** with bearings, would it be more trouble than its worth to clean it up and regrease everything or just buy new stuff.
ill post pics when i can get the bike out of storage

Hey dude, Ive rebuilt some really bad bikes, rust, rain, corrosion etc. everywhere. If your hubs are aluminum then all you should have to do is regrease them and make sure you get ALL the rust out(from your axle/cone nuts etc.)with WD-40, whitch is a great degreaser. Make sure you clean out all the WD-40 out before applying new grease, and then just rebuild you hubs. If you have sealed bearings your going to want to buy new bearing sets, and this hub cleaning processe should alsowork for your crank, and head set bearings as well. Hope this helps, good luck

Flooded bike? Redo the bearings, and on the most part it will be fine.

I used to use a 33-14 ratio when I rode street.

To make it rideable, all you need is a new chain. But I dont recommend it. Most, if not all the Katrina'ed bikes I have rebuilt, had no grease in the bearings.
Get yourself a can of PB Blaster to help you dissemble it. Without this, or anything like liquid wrench etc., it will be very hard to get it apart.

i was going to regrease it anyway, but when i started on it before i had to put it in storage it came apart fine, no frozen nuts or anything just muck. ima see if a friend will give me a ride to baton rouge where the storage place is and ill get back on it right when i get home

What cranks do you have now? IMHO I have ridden on quality 3pc cranks, and dont like them.

Even my stock cranks on my Fit Pro are pretty decent- I don't know how you wouldn't like 'quality' 3pc cranks. What do you consider 'quality'?

To a homeless person, he might consider that 'quality'.

I wouldn't recomend using Mag wheels. They are gonna get messed up while doing grinds.

They were redline cranks. The bike was a redline park. The cranks just seemed short

Yes, The spindle bent a tiny bit and twisted after about a year.

I had monster cranks for a year and a half with no problems, and then I sold them to a friend who is still riding them. They arent very good, and they are heavy, but they arent that bad.

You are probialy tightening it instead of loosening it. Read this http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=92

Cutting your pedals off isnt very effective, becuase the threads will still be in the crank arm...

PB Blaster. It works.
Not always i used it on one pedal and the wrench smoked and then snapped from to much torque.
