(applogies if something similar has been up before, but I didn't find anything by searching..)

Does anyone know of a regular "time trial"-like event in San Francisco? I'd like something weekly, preferably on a closed track, where I could pit myself against the clock...

Before moving to San Francisco I would go to the Eastway racetrack in London (England) for their weekly 10 mile time trials. I really enjoyed it, as it was really informal and they were welcoming to anyone regardless of fitness level and type of bike (I rode a Dutch lowracer recumbent at the time!). To anyone not familiar with the Eastway track, it's a beauty! It's 1 mile of twists and turns, uphills and down - apart from the start/stop/viewing area it's like riding down an English country lane.

Thanks! Magnus

Theres nothing like Eastway around SF AFAIK (and shortly there will be nothing like Eastway in London either). There is however a ton of wonderful cycling especially up into Marin/Larkspur/Tibouron etc.

Nearest velodrome is Hellyer Park in San Jose. Its a fantastic little track. Has wonderful training sesssions and a good quality of racing. I would strongly urge heading down there for one of their intro track classes.

Probably the best best is to contact one of the many racing clubs/teams based in and around SF, they probably can offer better advice. SFBC has a good list on this page:

Thanks!

(Yes, I knew Eastway will close soon too. Very sad! The olympics aren't worth it..)
