I spent Saturday night at my sister in laws in Asheville and did a nice 40 mile loop up there this morning. The loop had a number of short hills and one pretty good climb. The climb was on Hookers Gap and you can only imagine my excitement and what was running through my mind on what I thought I might find at the top of the 2 mile climb.

Oh well, as you would guess I was just a bunch of trees on both sides of the road.

The pics below are:

A nice stream along one of the roads
The top of Hookers Gap-with the trees there wasn't even much of a view-what else were you thinking??
The other two pics are of a really nice lake in Enka...where we watched an incredible fireworks display on Saturday night and a nice little house overlooking the lake.

I almost forgot.....we had heaps of Strawberry pie with cool whip Saturday and today. YUMMMMM!!

Jppe....you and Stapfam are tied for luscious greenery. Need to post some photos of rolling brown hills of my dear home-- central CA. Gotta say your in-laws have a nice little place pictured there. Southern elegance?

Beautiful! :) My husband and I go to the Grove Park Inn almost every year for our anniversary. Asheville is so pretty.

Good pics - include bike in next ones! I go down to WNC near Bryson City to ride my mtn bike every other year or so. Last time I said I'm taking my road bike too. I was in NE OH this weekend and got in one measly ride. Roads are not good there for 120 psi tires. Should have had one of the old balloon tire bikes my wife and I used in High School.

That's some gorgeous scenery, jppe! I've never had strawberry pie. Sounds delicious!

Take care,

Steve

Man, you've got to be careful posting pictures like this. People will want to move to such a beauitful place. Then the housing developments will start, congestion on the roads, and all the other stuff that goes along with paradise lost. Looks like a great place to ride.

I do not know if this is the nicest part of this country (for biking), but I think it is up there.

I suspect you were riding in Tsali in Bryon City.......some of the best trail riding around.

Cheeseflavor......strawberry pie is a seasonal delight. You can serve it warm or cold and it's sensational.

NOS-I've ridden in a lot of areas and the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western NC are hard to beat. Great climbing, terrific views, roads not too busy and the weather usually pretty agreeable. Land prices are continuing to climb as people are continuing to buy summer property there.

Will-I'm sure there are other areas that are very nice, like Raket's country in upper NY and northern California, Oregon and Washington but I'd agree that the mountains of NC are terrific for riding. Heck, Lance even mentions how much he enjoyed riding around Boone in his books......

All the Trans Am riders swear the Blue Ridge are the toughest climbs. The pie sounds great as are the photos.
I love seeing where we all ride.
