so i just learned that this is the descendant of the Bruiser. so i was wondering how durable is the bike really? is it strictly for BMX-esque purposes or is it suitable for rough trail riding too? how upgradeable is it? would you recommend it for beginners?

Hm. The Bruiser had a more trail-friendly geometry if you can find one of those. I test-rode a Jack and didn't like it all that much. Then rode a Bruiser and bought it. The Jack has a very dirt-jumping/park specific geometry and would probably be brutal to try and climb on while trail-riding.

I thought the Jack was a replacement for the Bruiser. Is Trek still making Bruisers?

No, but if you might call a few bike shops in your area and find one if you're lucky. Also, the Jack didn't "feel" right to me, but it might feel great too. Try out a bunch of bikes and see which one you like...

Bruisers give you bruises. Ask EJ and Jason. :(

If you want a Jack, I would throw that money into a Brodie Rat.
