Hi, new to the forum. My biking experience is limited to a mountain bike I commuted on for about a year. I'm thinking about going carless again due to high gas prices. Got interested in trikes while researching electric bikes and saw a motor assisted EZ3. After looking around I ran across the Lightfoot website and really like the looks of them. Anyone have any experience with them? They look solid built. Also, looking at the cargo version with the diamond plated tops on the cargo box, I've got an idea to put a cartop tent on it to use for camping. Obviously between the bike, tent, and gear it would be some serious weight. They say on their site that their gearing allows the rider to handle heavy loads easily. I'm not worried about moving fast, just want to be able handle the load. Any opinions on the feasibility of this? Thanks!

i dont have any experience with those specific trikes but I have used many different types of trikes.
Speed wont be an issue no matter how heavy the load. The major issue would be roll overs.
depending on the size of the boom on the trike and the amount of weight you want to carry the only way to roll would be to hit a corner very sharply at more than about 35-40 kph. If you're after a touring vehicle get one with the widest boom possible this will be a lot more stable even with a heavy load and a bit of speed

Zero negatives that i'm aware of.

Well, it's certainly a lot nicer than one of those "adult" trikes! Based on what I've read, you'll be pleased with the build quality and ruggedness. Just don't expect to go real fast or to turn corners at any speed faster than 10mph.

Thanks for the good advice. I'm rethinking that cartop tent idea, will probably use a Kifaru tipi instead. Considering the pricetag, will have to wait awhile to get the Lightfoot but I'm 7 years from retirement. This looks like the perfect rig to keep me busy! Regards...

Well hey, once you're retired you could learn how to weld, and build your own! What else are you going to do with all that spare time? ;)

Nah, I leave that stuff to the truly gifted! Anything I put together looks like modern art that doesn't sell, lol!
