This is mainly for motorcycle riders, but it also goes to show the danger road commuters are faced with...

I think that motorcycles present a higher chance of injury / death (as depicted on this site) because of the speed factor.

Also, motorcycles spend more time IN the lane, rather than to the side like bicycles (should).

so, here is the LINK (http://ride2die.com) :mad:

WARNING if the previous site made your stomach turn, then DO NOT click this link.

There are things here that you will not see in sanitized America unless you work in the police, fire, or EMS fields, but still is an education that you will never forget and will hopefully never experience.

Some drivers out there should be required to view this material, their actions on the road make ME sick because they cause this carnage.

If that carnage makes you mad, why does it not make you mad that you are "forced" to forego a right of yours because some motorists don't believe you have that right (and have somehow convinced you to that you don't have that right)? That "right" by the way, is the right to use any lane of the road you need to use.

Motorcycling is way more dangerous because things happen way faster than
your reactions can adjust for in an emergancy situation.
And, if it is possible, people on motorcycles, especially the Japanese racer type bikes get
less respect than bicyclists. But, being aware of this I feel way safer on a motorcycle
overall than a bicycle.
Over the last 10 years here is my perception of the publics respect-0-meter based on
the two wheelers I personally have ridden.
The least = 0, most being 10.

Bicycle = 5
J-nese race bike = 0
Harley = 7
Beat up Enduro MC = 8
Vespa scooter = 9.5

You know I kind of agree with that one. I just can't think of a reason why Vespa scooter gets such a high rating. For Racers I think motorists don't like them because while they are stuck in traffic racers are weaving between cars, actually they do it even when traffic is moving along at 70mph. Harleys are still associated with bad asses and criminals.

It doesnt out run the car but those old vespas could easly do 45 mph so it doesnt slow em down ither. Basically sports bikes can just blow the doors off a car and many riders in driver perceptions at least are maniacs and do unpredictable things while some one on a vespa is just cruising along at the posted speed limit maybe a bit more. I use to ride a old batavous (speling) 3 speed moped mine was black with gold striping. Other than the pedals it looked pretty much like a small engine motorcycle and was rated for 45 to 55 mph. With some tuneing and tweakign i got it to top out at 60 mph. High way speeds in other words. Not legal for highway use i dont beleive do to it having pedals and being liced as a moped. I never had a driver do stupid things while on it. Though i did have a heck of alot of em wave me over to check it out. Seems there wasnt all that many of them left on the road :)

Vespa made a whole line of scooters, I had a couple while in high school. The Vespa Rally 200 was good for about 75 mph.:eek: I currently have a Honda Elite 125 that will run an honest 58 mph and turn in around 85mpg. The Honda is a single cylinder water cooled 4 stroke. I guess people see them as non threatening, but able to keep up with traffic.

heh the rally line were nice as they were great for a single person to take a nice long road trip. Highway legal speeds good gas milage etc.
