I rode the Metrolink from Palmdale to Santa Clarita today and then rode to the doctor's office. I got to the doctor's office fine, but on the way back to the train station got lost on the bike paths. There didn't seem to be any direction signs or signs saying what streets the path was coming up on and when there were forks with a choice to go left or right, nothing saying where either one went.

So, I ended up asking a young jogger for directions, who had me follow him to the Newhall station, which was one further station than I'd gotten off at.

How do you Santa Clarita riders figure out the trails? Are there signs I just missed or what?

Well I just go by whichever street or landmark the particular path runs along. Of course living in the neighborhoos helps with that kind of navigating. I'm just so jazzed to have those kind of paths available in the first place that it never occured to me that there should be signage. Then again, a basic sense of direction does wonders.

Don't get me wrong -- I think the bike trails are wonderful. But, not easy for an out-of-towner to navigate. I have a very good sense of direction. I knew I was going east. But, I took a wrong fork and ended up not being on the path that parallels Soledad Canyon, as I should have been.
