Hi gang!

I was thinking last night what it would be like to live in a community made up of everyone at Bikeforums...

Say we owed a village, with enough space for all members and guests, what would be your role in the community, and how would you make our village a better place to live...?

I'll start it off;

I'd run the local village tea and coffee cyber-rooms, making people tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches for all, and spreading the good word of the forums...to make our village a better place I would plant a dense wood of trees and create a wicked single track cutting through it with jumps and stuff...taking into consideration an area for plants and animals ofcourse.

Your turn!

I will host daily meditation before everybody hits the single track or streets.

At least it would be good for me. ;)

I will also bake bread in my trusty $5 bread machine for those who aren't a-feared of carbohydrates.

I guess I'd do what I do now, be a computer geek. :D

But just think, no cars!...Let me say it again, (it sounds so good!)
NO CARS!!! :D :D :D

Smells better, cleaner, definitely safer, the list goes on ad nauseum. :p

Hey this is a good idea!

I would probabaly be a good all around grunt or laborer. Just tell me what to do and I would do it. I just like to be included and the feeling of being needed.

If that is not workable, How about village idiot?

Ridealot,
I'm afraid there would be stiff competition for that position. We might have to hold a goof off to decide. :)

YAY!!! I'll be the chick who makes sure you have all the snacks and water and gatorade you need. I'll sag you on long rides and have a bountiful Italian (homemade, of course) feast awaiting your return.

( after all this is PRETEND )

Id put forward that Joe Gardener would be Chief of the Village...after all, it is his site!!! :D

Carmechanic, that`s my original job (sorry guys!), but thank god i`ve been switched to carpenter/cabinet-maker.
Carpenter and Clubowner sounds good to me  , i like to see people having a good time in the weekends.
And of course my nightclub has a special bikegarage, for free and safe parking of your "everything" , a 24 hr service station and a lot of  music!!!

I would be the guy who nobody knows what he does and are afraid to ask. Also, nobody knows where I am at any particular time. The only time I seem to be around is dinner, then I disappear!

No, actually I have several options:

The rich philanthropist who has entirely too much time on his hands.

The eccentric artist who walks (and cycles) around mumbling to himself.

The postman (the kind who delivers on foot, or even bicycle.)

The guy who doesn't seem to have a job, but spends his time loitering around others while they are working, offering suggestions and borrowing money.

I would like to be anything, as long as I got to live there!

I'll shepard the newbies, show them around the place, the trails, routes, get them started on the best places to ride, then eat wherever the food is best....will it be Cheryl's or Rich?:D

How about if I am the local gardener? Flowers everywhere and plants hanging in front of every window. This must be a utopian society.

Actually, Rich, Cheryl and Toolfreak all have extremely important jobs here in BikeForums-ville.

Since all our citizens are cyclists, eating and drinking will likely be the second most popular activity, attracting a constant flow of customers. And with all the stories we swap, the tables would stay full and constant snacks and beverages be consumed.

I just want to be the Janitor :) I have found a nice island we can purchase and build, just for our community! Check it out here (http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/sales_islands/sites/08_swan.html).

I can toss in $505 :)

I'll run the local pub. Someone needs to be there to supply you all with bottles of your favorite micro brew or pints of Guinness (I won't serve Bud though. Sorry, personal grudge), it might as well be me.

(that's Budweiser, by the way. I don't want any of you to think I have it in for some guy named Bud)

But of course! No self respecting pub would deny their customers a but of whiskey (or whisky, if you swing that way). Strictly top shelf though. I hope no one minds.

So far a the remainder of my bar, if you can drink it, I'll be serving it. The only exception is cheap American beer. I have developed a bit of distaste for it. I've you really want it, I could probably arrange to sell it to you as long as you agree to drink it somewhere else.

I could be the information director (I wouldn't want the title librarian...although there is nothing wrong with that). The newbies will have to learn the cycling jargon that is tossed about freely on the island/town, and I'll provide them with that knowledge. I could also be the keeper of the maps. All archival records of the community will be stored on my shelves. I will also keep the best music to listen to while cycling. My information center will be closing at 4 pm so I can go cycling 60 miles with Ba-Dg-Er every evening...along with everyone else in town.

I'll also carry literature. You'll have to do something with your free time when you're not riding. Has television been outlawed yet?

Okay guy the Restaurant business is my territory, , I will be cooking your pasta after a very long bike ride, and I will be very accomodating that I will cook your meal to what ever you want it done,..but It will be a very expensive resto, just kidding....

I would like to be the guy who plans and organizes the many wonderful bicycling adventures our community would enjoy.

Hopefully, Marcy and GirlzNGear would work with me because they seem to be good at it.

MichaelW could be the technical director on our trip.

Racso could be the mobile surgeon.

Pete Clark could be the diplomat who talks police out of giving us tickets.

Fubar5 could supply our trips with essential parts which he could mooch from his boss.

Campag Fetish Boy would be the local tailor because he seems to like needles.

Technogirl can think of zany songs for us to sing while we streak miles of road with our tires.

Cheryl can document it all and create a web page to show off our trips.

Hieloazul can ride point (because Marcy says hieloazul has the figure that will encourage us to follow).

Joe Gardner could, oh wait, he is the mayor, so he has to stay home and run the place while we are away.

Ofcourse, we'd have to sacrifice a Huffy bike every full moon to apease the Gods of our little island!!!

Mike, I don't blame you for picking the best job.

Hopefully, Marcy and GirlzNGear would work with me because they seem to be good at it.
Of course, you could use the help...

MichaelW could be the technical director on our trip.
If he really wants the job...

Racso could be the mobile surgeon.
He'll be too far ahead of all of us to be of any use as a doctor! ;)

Pete Clark could be the diplomat who talks police out of giving us tickets.
Gee, thanks! I can picture it...

"Officers...Whassup! Hey, nice threads, man! :D"

(See you at the end of the trip!)

Fubar5 could supply our trips with essential parts which he could mooch from his boss.
Watch out, Fubar! You've got a good thing going, don't spoil it!

Campag Fetish Boy would be the local tailor because he seems to like needles.
I won't even go there. Ouch!

Technogirl can think of zany songs for us to sing while we streak miles of road with our tires.
Until I start to sing along...

Cheryl can document it all and create a web page to show off our trips.
That'll be a major task, even for Cheryl!

Hieloazul can ride point (because Marcy says hieloazul has the figure that will encourage us to follow).

I'll be the guy who charges visitors ridiculous amounts of money at my automated parking lots at the town limits.

Then I'd take my winnings and hang out at Rich's coffee shop in the morning and Lightboy's Pub in the afternoon/evening. Darts anyone?

I`ll be in Lightboy`s pub anyway, so i`ll buy you a  or whisky.

Sounds like a great idea mate!

Problem is that Michael W, Toolfreak and me are from Europe...urm, maybe to be fair, we should meet up somewhere in the mid Atlantic...

Don't forget your are bands :D

Steel frames aren't a problem as long as you ride on the bottom of the ocean. There's so little dissolved oxygen there that some shipwrecks have been found virtually rust-free after many years. Just be sure your bike is heavy enough to go to the bottom!

Rich
06-15-01, 08:43 AM
You're right you know Jon,

Wouldn't the breathing equipment be a bit expensive for that though?

All I have to hand is a snorkle and a pair of junior flippers :(

How about I be the guy mowing his yard with a push mower(no engine), also known as an "acoustical" lawn mower. When a group of cyclists zoom by, I'll scratch my head quizzicaly, then jump on my bike and try to catch up, all the while yelling, "Come on, girls and boys, wait for me-eeee-eee!!" Then we can all hang out with Keith
Richards and Margaret Tharcher and smoke cigars and drink coffee and wine and stuff. Then ride home and do it all again the next day! O.K.?

What a cool place... don't know where I'd fit in. Has anyone signed up for road construction and maintenance, yet?

JonR, see ya at mornin' meditation.

Lunch at Orguasch's.

Badger, I hope there's room in the shop for people to hang out and talk bikes... I'll probably be showing up an hour early for the evening rides.

Lightboy, I hope the pub has Murphy's on tap, room temperature (recovery beverage!).

Fujidude, gotta have my dial-up. Where do I sign up?

nebill
06-17-01, 02:21 PM
No dial up here, Raodbuzz....all high speed wireless! 128k minimum connect speed, and always connected! When you stop for a break on the weekly century ride, you can post your experiences on this forum from your Palm Pilot!

Rich
06-18-01, 04:48 AM
I like the idea of a barter system on the island...maybe we could trade in bike parts..hehe, Dura Ace/XTR/ESP 9.0 etc could be the top value currency, and Huffy bikes could be like the lose change!!! :D

Not that I have anything against Huffy Bikes...urm, at least we'd have plenty to sacrifice to our god!!!

See ya in the Pub!
