I have been looking into an Edge 305 GPS bike computer to replace my old and outdated cateye/polar combination. I have had only bad experiences with polar - unfortunately. The interference from every powerline, phone line, other cyclist and so on makes it unreliable.
As I also would like to use the Edge 305 during run training, I wonder if anyone has a comment on the functionality for running and is it worth it? It seems a great bike computer but I am not sure it works when used for running and it is larger than the others.
thanks,
Be kinda hard to run with. I would get the Forerunner. The new ones support cadence and HR so really you don't lose any functionality. And they are designed primarily for running (watch style)

I love my Edge 305 but if you also want something to use while you run, I suggest getting the ForeRunner 305 and add the cadence sensor. It is basically designed for multi-sport use.
I just got my forerunner 305 on monday and I love it so far. I used to have the 201 and that worked pretty damn well but I wanted heart rate. The 305 seems more accurate as far as satellite acquisition (sp? im tired) goes.
I am thinking about the Forerunner or Edge 305. Must have candence and heartrate. Where are you guys buying yours? Seems like the Edge can be had off eBay for under $300, but there is always a risk it isnt new?? Thanks.

If you don't want to go off e-bay, ZMarine (zshoppes.com) has good pricing on them.

As others have stated, you want the forerunner, not the edge if you are going to be primarily using it for running. I got the forerunner 305 primarily for my running. I used to not really know how exactly how far I ran or at what pace. The forerunner 305 solved all of that. It's pretty cool to be able to correlate your heart rate with the elevation, etc. It's a great training tool.

The coolest thing about the Forerunner is the freedom it gives you. I used to plan my routes so I would know how far I was going, now I just start running and go wherever I want.
"Cool! A coyote carrying a rabbit. I'll get a closer look."
"I wonder where that trail leads to..."
It's a great piece of technology.
