Some of you may be aware that I was looking into having gastric bypass surgery. I am overweight, but my purpose for the surgery was more to get the diabetes under control. The diabetes was really starting to get crazy and my blood sugars would go up (WAY UP) when I exercised and I physically would just freak out and have no energy. My doc suggested that Gastric Bypass might be just the fix for me.

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on Friday, June 30th. Yeah... 4 days ago. This is a major surgery with many risks involved and NOT to be entered into lightly....BUT I NOW FEEL GREAT!!!

Yesterday I went for a ride, yup on my bike! Not a long ride but a ride none-the-less. 2.5 miles and it felt great!!!! Today I and the Hubby Steve are going for six miles I will ride the 2.5 mile loop we did
yesterday and then up to our club ride meeting spot to say high to the gang. Steve will ride the 30 mile club ride at his gruelling 20 mph pace with all the other hammer heads while I return home on my bike to wait for his return. Should be about a six mile ride for me and 36 for Steve.

My plan is to increase my mileage daily unitl I am back up to speed and distance. My goal is to be diabetes free and 100 pounds lighter by next spring. WOOOOOHOOOO, we are on our way

Oh, the diabetes, since my release from the hospital on Sunday my bllod sugars have been "normal" without ANY medication! What a miracle!

I case anyone is interested I am bloging my progress with cycling and Gastric Bypass Surgery. Here is the link. http://bikenaked.net/blogs/lindas_blog/default.aspx Stop by and take a look, I have some pics from the Hospital/surgery posted also.

If you have questions or comments please feel free to ask or say.

Hugs!

Linda

That's an inspiring note. Your results sound great with sugar levels in the norms.
Just listen to your experts and come back at a steady pace.
Congrats!

What a terrific start HillSlug!! Keep us posted on your progress. You have set a very challenging goal but I would not bet against you knocking this one out of the park.

Wondered where you had got to. Thought hubby had got jealous of the riding achievements and tied you to the kitchen sink. Good news but be a bit carefull. Not too many long rides and don't upset hubby too much. He still has to check your bike and 60PSI in the tyres will slow you down.

Wow! What courage. You're right about this surgery not being something to be entered into lightly. Yet, you had the courage to make a very hard choice. AND THEN... you go for a bike ride 3 days after the surgery!?!?! Women really must have a higher threshold for pain. My hat is off to you, Linda.

Thanks Stapfam! Yeah, we sorta got lost for a bit. Had us a little ole' distraction but we are back on track and easing our way back into cycling.

I will be sure to handle Cheese' with "Kid Gloves" :D He is sensitive!

Hill Slug,

First you lasso-ed Stevie, then you tamed him, now this...is there anything you can't do???

Going with the butterfly theme, how about, "Monarch O' The Mountains?"

Or simply, "Madam Butterfly."

Hill slug is on the way out so you'd better sort that new name- before the rest of you decide it for you.

Gee, thanks a lot. Now when I try to use the "I'm too tired for a ride" excuse I'll have your example mocking me. :p

Congratulations. Your courage will be an inspiration for many.

That gasping sound you're going to hear soon will be Cheese trying to hold your wheel at 25mph.

I see I need to defend my honor once again. Just for the record, I kicked her tail yesterday on the flats :)
