General Cycling Discussion - How did you use your bicycle this week, weekend?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I hope this will turn into a thread and continue even when i am not posting. You can tell about your epic rides or just normal everyday activity(N.e.at).On monday I drove to Rochelle Illinois to meet a friend (They were unavailable)but since i had my 1 speed Yeah with me i was able to kill about 4 hours exploring the area and riding the local bike path.Total for the day was approximately 10 miles. Tuesday I rode from home to my fathers house(10 miles) for a visit and then back home to take in fireworks shows in two adjoining towns(Berwyn and North Riverside if anyone wants to do a double next year)Afterwards i was able to get out of the mall lot in 5 minutes and then rode over to the Polar bear for a sundae . I was probably done with it before the last car left the lot. Then it was home.:D
Ah Polar Bear, a N. Riverside institution.

Gaa... This weekend I went on a 4-day vacation with the New York Cycle Club. Rode from Manhattan to West Point, NY (58 miles) on Saturday. Sunday rode a loop from West Point towards Goshen, but then (due to accident-related delays) abbreviated, turned back through Cornwall, total distance approx 42 miles. Monday rode the "Bridge To Bridge" loop up Storm King Mountain to the Beacon Bridge, then down the east side of the Hudson to the Bear Mountain Bridge & back to West Point, total approx 40 miles. Tuesday rode home, another 55-ish miles.
This is the first time in my life that I've ever ridden 4 days straight. It feels fookin' great! but man am I tired!

I hooked up my son's trailer to the bike last Sunday. Put him in it and went on a 50 mile ride. It took almost half the day to complete. The required stop at a playground didn't help.
The kid loved it and my legs were less than appreciative. It was amusing to pull a trailer up some of the hills heading into golden. Next Sunday we will be going for 60 miles.

I’m very car lite. I commute to work more or less every weekday, run most errands and recreate by bike. Just last night, friends and I rode our bikes to the beach for fire work festivities. :D
I usually put gas in my car once a month. Last month I only topped it off. Had to get a jump too, from having been idle much of the time. Several times a year I’ll load the car with bike and gear and drive to trails around the state. I’ve yet to have the chance to take the bike out of state, but I’ll likely get around to it soon. :)
Friday night I went on a 16 mile recovery ride on a bike path in Iowa. The ride was interesting because a deer stood in the middle of the path, so I decided to see how close my bike and I could get before it ran off. The deer turned and faced me head on and I was thinking what now. I started applying the brakes and the deer bolted when I was about 10 yards away.
Because of not feeling well, I did not ride again until the fourth. I rode around town 22 miles visiting friends and family. I then took the cage (car) to go watch fireworks to avoid dealing with the heavy traffic in the dark.

Not this weekend, but Father's Day weekend i rode my bike into the mountains with camping gear and skis lashed to the back for three days of skiing and bicycling around Mount Rainier National Park. Here's a picture of me skiing with my bike.
This weekend, fourth of july weekend, i was skiing down another volcano, where bikes are not allowed.
well, i already posted about it but i took my volpe out for the first time. i went down from la jolla through mission bay, around fiesta island(not really an island) once and through mission beach then pacific beach all the way home. fun. i don't have a computer but my guess is about 15-17 miles.
On Saturday I took my new Bike to Guadalupe Valley Staye Park for its first real trail ride, then it spent sat night - monday at the bike shop for its post ride checkup (they asked me to take it in after my first rough ride to make sure everything checked out) then on the 4th I went to Mccallister Park in SA for a mud ride =)
Yesterday, I hopped on the tandem with my 8-yr old and we bummed up and down the lakefront around Evanston, ate ice cream and stuck our feet in the water. We even hit a couple park playgrounds on the to and from. Miles covered, about 10. Time elapsed, almost 3 hours.

Riding home in the cool morning after driving my wife to work. She dislikes driving.
4 trips = 80 miles, avoiding the high 80s in the PM
A couple of friends and I took a nice ride through the east bay hills
No cars for most of the ride and great weatherhttp://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j90/rzims/whataview.jpg

On Saturday I took a nice solo ride from Battery Park, in lower Manhattan, New York City, up to Nyack. About 70 miles round trip. The weather was a bit warm, but all in all it was a good ride.
Good thread idea!
Sunday morning I took my roadie out for an early morning training ride. After looking unsuccessfully for an open coffee shop, I headed west across the Sacramento and then north along the River Road towards Woodland. I took a detour on to a gravel levee road and then back over the Sacramento on the I-5 bridge. Which is neither illegal nor as dangerous as it might seem.
Monday I pulled the kids' trailer with my old mtb. We went around the park a couple of times. It's a nice mellowing thing before bedtime. My son likes it too.
Tuesday I raced in the Davis 4th of July Crit.
Today it's the old mtb's turn again for the commute to the office.
I put a total of 68 miles on mine this weekend. I took it up a couple miles of inclined canyon road in 5 canyons.

I have been trying to get out every morning and evening. This weekend was "get the wife back on the bike" weekend. I have had her riding every morning. Monday we went to the Tall Ship festival in Beaufort and brought the bikes to get aorund, but the traffic was so bad we just parked the car, left the bikes and hoofed it.(and never dod get to see any ships. The Pins Shore Knolls aquarium was very nice tho.
i used it to get some groceries and to punish my knees for being so anti cycling. jackass knees! *shakes fist at knees!*

I used my bike as a paperweight. Then I rode around Washington, DC.

I used it to take up space in the dining room. Thanks to a shipping error by the post office, wallbike won't be receiving the Brooks I am exchanging until tomorrow at the earliest instead of having recieved it last thursday. Ugh. Needless to say I am not happy about losing another week of riding (took last week off to let some chaffing heal).

I commute to work every day and use my bike to go anywhere I need to go. I've also been riding out to small towns I've never been to before and back as a way to explore my area and train for RAGBRAI. Unfortunatly I keep getting stuck on gravel roads when I least expect it. Today I got clipped by a cager so until I can afford a new rear wheel I won't be doing any riding.. (sigh) long walk to work.

ooooo prrretty ride rzims, thanks :)
Last night I went on a 14 mile ride with my wife and my two oldest sons, aged 11 & 9, on the KATY Trail. The weather was perfect. It was a great family ride.
Saturday - I rode the weekly Dubber off road ride in the AM. A friend of my daughter's was up and she was a total newbie. We kept it sane and safe. Felt good waiting for someone instead of being waited for.
Sunday - Another off road ride with a couple of guys from the team. We decided to check out an area that has been overrrun by ATV's the last few years. Much of the area has been cordoned off. But those pesky ATVers had created some new trails around the banned area and they were great. Lots of climbing.
Monday - AM shop employee Road ride. Managed to cram roughly 3500 feet of climbing into a 38 miler. My legs were toast when we got back.
Tuesday - Pancake breakfast and offroad ride at Warren's house. Hot and muggy, I dragged my overfilled and wasted sad self after the crowd and managed to hang in there and have some fun. I had a moment or two when I was sure I was going to have a trailside review of the breakfast I chowed into an hour earlier.
Yesterday- I couldn't move.

I started bicycle commuting (31 mile roundtrip) occasionally last year. Due to rising fuel prices I am doing less recreational riding and more commuting and errand running with the bike.
Friday: Recovery day for my knees from riding to work Thursday. I work nights, so I actually did ride home from work Friday morning, but not to work Friday night.
Saturday: Rode to work Saturday Night.
Sunday: Rode home from work. Slept 'til 10am Monday.
Monday: Rode in to work at 2pm (Damn, it's HOT!) - usually my day off, but covering 2nd shift for a friend. Rode home around midnight, nice and cool, got rained on a bit, was home about 10 minutes before it really started pouring!
Tuesday: Volunteered to work the holiday(1st shift), but jackass, anti-bicycling knees needed a rest day.:o Rode with BOB trailer to grocery store about 11pm for 5 twelve-packs of soda, 2 bags of M&M's, and 2 bags of chips.:o (8 mile roundtrip)
Wednesday: Rode to work dragging BOB trailer because I want to grocery shop at a store on the way home in the morning.
Thursday morning: Came home with: 12 pack of toilet paper, 5 pounds of potatos, 1 package of cinnamon rolls, 4 frozen pizzas, 2 TV dinners, and 4 boxes of Hamburger Helper (bachelor chow).
Thursday evening: rode to store for a gallon of milk, and met a nieghbor who lives about a block from me (his crazy dog Lucy and I have known each other for several years, we had just never been properly intoduced...). Talked with Norm for at least half an hour while he worked on his Harley and I pet Lucy. Drove to work tonight - lousy knees wanted another day off.
